Oh so i take it people just use standard door hinges then. I didn't know it there were any specifically for cars?

Also whats peoples views on securing the flip front. Bonnet pins or leather straps or is it just down to personal preferance?

Well I think most people buy the expensive proper flip front hinges, but as I’m a cheap skate and will use anything I can legally get my mitts on, I reused a pair of old gate hinges for mine.

And with a bit of modification by replacing the pin with either a long pin/R-clip or suitable bolt/nut can also be quick release for the front end to be removable.

And this is my a panel fixings, a strip of steel welded to the back of the a panel to form a tab with two nuts welded to it and then two bolts per side, I’ve recently replaced the bolts with M.8 allen bolts as I think they look nicer.

i got proper hinges for mine from minispeed, imo " normal " hinges wont work due to there not being any gap between the front subby and the front, plus they wont hold the front properly unless they are modified in some way!

I used bonnet pins like captain kirk for the front valance and dzus fasteners on the sides though my flip front replaces the A panels too which is nice

Cheers for the info guys. Im liking the way captain kirk has done his with the bonet pins on the front valence. May go for this was as i can then totally remove the front end when working on the mini.

What do the dzus fasteners look like (sorry to be a noobie at all this)?

Don't think they'd weld well 2 small machine screws 'n nuts would do it.

I like Mini 25's screws, but think something with a bigger head to spread the load if you had a bump would be good. How thick are those hinges Kez, you could hang your whole car off them! :P.

Fibreglass is really simple to work with, there's no reason why you can't add on a few bits to the inside of your moulding to mount it better.
