Would be a nice idea, but at £25k each, only the people with enough money to say 'I have a 09 Classic Mini' will be the ones buying them.

Well if I had the moolah, I'd be first in line. :)

So, are they really aiming to make 50? They'd have to wipe the sleep from their eyes to knock out that number next year.

They don't have the capacity to make 50 in a year. In Mike's words "We'll launch with this one, then see how it goes". I think we'll be lucky if they make the Centenary.........

If you work it out (I did a few years ago) you can make your own new Mini for around 21k, buying 100% new parts!

Yes, but then it gets Q plated and to be honest I wouldn't like a Q plate and I don't think a lot of other people do. On the other hand you do have a good point

What's wrong with a Q plate? Just out of interest.

i don't mind what plate im given if i save 4grand!!

I'm a classic Mini owner, it was my first car, and i love it still...so im not criticising the Mini, i just think they are a thing of the past, and lets face it, if Rover had of replaced it in the 80's with an updated one, then again in the 90's with a successful one (we all know the Metro was pants), Rover could well have still be alive...anyway...

i can see why there doing it, and i think its great, i just think its a shame that the only people who buy them are going to be 1) car collectors 2) people with to much money to burn 3) rock stars trying to be cool, as they are the only people who can afford to waste 25k on a car thats worth about 2grand...read on before you *woman of ill repute* me off...

i mean look at it this way, the classic Mini, in terms of value for money (specs) would be the worst spec car in the world if it was released today! and no one can even consider arguing with that, becasue i'm right! a bottom of the range Citroen C1 comes with loads of accessories, power steering, modern safety features, reliability etc. and can be purchased for around £6500, in my opinion that makes the Minis current market value to be around say £1500. (yes i know its a classic, and you cant buy a good second hand one for that), but its just a thought...

restoring and modifying Minis is a way of life...we all do it and we all love it!! i just think a run of new classic Minis is a great idea, but a waste of time and money! i personally believe that by creating new ones your making old ones less of a classic car...

however, if i had 25grand in my rainy day piggy bank i would definitely buy one...

No reason for a Q plate. If its all new and can pass an SVA then it gets a new 09 plate. Just like the W&P one(s) will.

just read through all 7 pages of this post and thought i would try and clear a few things up.
if w&p go down the route of sva the car can be issued with a 09 plate as long as they use all new parts or only 1 used part.
would probably get registered as akit car, this is a similar principal to retaining a reg when doing a kit car you can only change a certain number of parts.
the sva test is just to establish that the car is roadworthy and the parts are new. they will need a folder full of receipts detailing every single nut and bolt to prove this.

http://www.direct.go...cle/DG_10014246
cut and pasted direct from dvla website

Where all the parts of a vehicle are supplied new by the manufacturer. Subject to the provision of satisfactory receipts and a certificate of newness these vehicles will be registered under a current registration mark.

Kit cars which have been built using not more than one reconditioned component will also be registered under a current mark. This is subject to the provision of satisfactory evidence that the component has been reconditioned to an ""as new"" standard. An ESVA, SVA or MSVA test will be required.

wouldnt it be great though, they should get a big company to give them away as prizes like heinz did with the hornet/elf convertables. that would stop them falling into the hands of people who want to hide them away and not drive them, so what if they get left out in the rain so what if they will be rusty in 10 years its a mini and should be driven. bmw can go jump and suck my balls

Anyone else coming to the Wood and Pickett Heritage Centre Grand Opening on Saturday 15th November at 11:30am? He says he's expecting about 100 minis and it would be good to meet anyone from TMF :)

One of the highlights will be (quote) 'the unveiling of our new project - the building of the brand new 09 registered WP Margrave 50'. Not sure if there will be a prototype or just plans.

I think you better check with W&P because this might be invitation only, I know invitations have gone out at least, so id check before arranging to go. dont want anyone to be disappointed.

Good point.

Looking at the website, they'd like you to call and let them know you're interested in coming. I guess thats so they dont get swamped.

i'd say 50 is possibly in a year, it's only one a week and a small team (2 or 3) could easily put a mini together in a week especially if things like subframes are supplied as complete assemblies. remember they will be using new body shells so dont need time restoring them.

i used to work for a ford dealer ship bodyshop and we used to reshell cars in 3-4 days
