Nice work there, are you using Susprog? Or something different?

No, I'm not using susprog at the moment. The CAD model is fully parametric, so motion in the model is as per the real world, and for the things I can't get from the model I have a spreadsheet with a bit of vector alebra in it to work out the positions of the links in the suspension for bump/rebound/roll etc.

I talked about it earlier in the thread if you have a look.....

Blimey, you don't post for 6 weeks or so and you end up on page 2!

Ahh well, still been working on this a little bit (spent a couple of evenings on it - if anyone cares), but just taken on a new project professionally. Thats meant I am away in Woking during the week working on something sportscar-like, and also been out the country quite a bit with testing and what-not.

Kinda hard to keep the momentum going under those circumstances, but once we get the current high workload out of the way I should be back on it....

On the upside, got access to some pretty powerful software tools now that I didn't before, and expertise to die for in the areas where I'm not so strong....

Stay tuned folks.

Apologies for missing these posts

I've had a bit of time at home, over the last week or two, so I had a fiddle about with the mini.

Here are a few more pictures. I've filled out the front suspension design, and developed the front subframe more. Can't remember exactly where i was last time I posted, but the engine is all mounted now, front suspension pic ups schemed if not fully fixed... Most of the airpath schemed (although some of the bends are going to be a lot tighter than I would want :/ )... Been looking at the rear end this weekend just gone.. significant changes to the crash structure there - and I think I'm gonna leave the seat back in place... A transverse bulkhead has to be pretty good for stiffness... and it don't weigh that much. Also now going for a subframe to carry lower wbone pickups and the diff (not started to design it yet though)...

Never been in a rush to get this done.. it takes as long as it takes... fel good about the way its coming along though.. Not that much more before I can think about finalising suspension geometry and finally getting stuck in!

Top work, looking forward to the updates (as and when they arrive)

Nice looking car you were working on, is it all hush hush or can you tell us about it?

make sure you go dry sump or you'll be going through motors quickly in that position....

The R1 is pretty good, but the usual is to add a baffle plate and overfill the oil, works well on the lotus 7 style cars that use the same configuration

Cheers

Agree that its not necessary to fit a dry sump system to the engine. There's plenty of BEC's out there using the R1 engine and I've not seen a dry sump conversion yet. i don't expect there is much in the way of windage loss the way the engine is laid out, so its just gonna sap power...

Besides, I'll have an oil pressure display of some sort on there, so if I do get drop outs I'll know about it in time to do something about it. Improve the baffling or something of that sort.

I need to order a new computer though.. the model is getting a bit big for the old dinosaur I'm using... Hmmm Dear Father Christmas...

Your rear sub frame is very simular design to that of the mx5
Link to one that has been replicated and narrowed to fit the mini track
