Thanks chaps.

Thanks to John (Burt) I have received the metro seat subframes, so will fit those when the Mini returns.

When the Mini returns I want to fit the metro seats with the subframes, a couple of power sockets and sound deadening.

Added a page to my website featuring pictures from Southern Mini Days 2007.

edit: This has been since removed and will be added at a later date.

I returned home Sunday afternoon at 2 pm after the family holiday in Scotland and on the way back I picked up the Mini from John's.

This is a summary of the work carried out written by John Guessworks.

Engine removed from vehicle, and final drive removed from gearbox, which was already a 3.44 ratio, this was replaced with a 3.1 ratio. The diff cage was stripped and rebuilt with a nearly new compeition diff pin, planet gears and mica thrusts.
New diff output seals, rod seal and gaskets use to reubuld along with 7/17 speedo drive worm and pinion to correct speedo reading. Transfer case was stripped and stripped as there were excessive oil deposits in clutch housing. New primary seal fitted.
Top engine steady bushes replaced with new poly vaiants due to excessive degradation. Top radiator fixing bracket welded back together as it was in 3 pieces.
Completed engine refit with exhaust, thermostat and rocker box gaskets. Oil change using Halfords 20/50 Classic (green) oil, and coolant renewed using 1 ltr antifreeze.
Drive problem diagnosed as failed drivesahft/Inner CV spline connection. Reconditioned Inner CV added, new CV boot and replacement driveshaft.
Exhaust repositioned and rear bracket welded to exhaust to provide stronger support. Middle support raised to bring centre section higher into tunnel reducing risk of catching it on speedhumps.
Rear brakes were checked for adjustment and re-adjusted.

It's so great to have the Mini back. I'm very pleased with it, it drives so much better than previously. As you can see the exhaust looks normal. I filled the tank and calculated my fuel consumption.... 52 mpg total of 182 miles! When I first got the Mini it averaged 40 mpg, the last gearbox averaged 20 mpg and this one is averaging 50 mpg.

It's not all good news though. While John carried out the work he found some issues that need attention.

Excessive corrosion was encountered in the area around the O/S front subframe top turret mount. Corrosion on front valance, N/S and O/S A panels and doors. N/S sill, previously patched, now holes through. O/S rear wheel arch very soft. Front cones very compressed.

Thanks guys.

I've had the mixture and timing tweaked as it was slightly over on emissions. It doesn't sound as mean now but acceleration has improved.

I added a new page to my website titled "The First Stage" which covered the start of the Brands Hatch to Nurburgring 2007.

edit: The page is no longer there but in the future will be put back online.
