more likely the diff than both driveshafts surely? wasnt it the Diff that went on your original gearbox?

The other possibility is the diff, but there would usually be a horrible noise if you tried to drive in gear with the diff gone.
Dom, I know you need to get a garage to look at it, but before you do that it'd be worth just seeing if there's anyone local from TMF who would pop round, jack it up and have a look for you. If it is the driveshaft thats come out of the CV (which is quite likely as you've not long had the engine replaced and all the driveshafts etc disturbed) then its about a half an hour job to whip a ball joint off, replace the spring clip and put it all back together.

Unfortunately, as the Mini had been sat for over a month, the brakes had seized. This meant we had to get a tow rope, drag and push it down the road with the rear left tyre screaming.
This caused a huge skidmark down the road to where the trailer was. Once we got it there the wheel had loosend, which made it easier to get it on the trailer.
John then secured the Mini onto the trailer with ropes and straps.
I handed over the keys and cash, and led John out of town back to the motorway.
