1985 manual 998

recently bought a KAD quickshift off Wilson1275 on here.

had a brief look at how to fit it tonight but cant see how to get the current gear stick out, there seems to be a round casingwith 2 pins sticking out of it?

Thanks

Pull up the carpet, pull off the rubber gear boot and push the cap of the stick down.

If you look at the housing the gearstick goes into a round metal dome, push that down and twist. It's like a light bulb fitting.

there seems to still be a metal collar type thing with 2 pins sticking out, do i knock the pins out and slide the collar off?

normally i would go for trial and error but need to get to college tomorrow so thought i should probably check first :(

The Kad quickshift will have two screws either side.

These screws screw into the side of the gear stick housing. You should see two suitable looking pins that need to be knocked out. Then the next bit is up to you.

Either try and screw in the two screws directly into the holes and hope they tap their own thread

or

do the job properly take the entire housing out and tap the two holes properly with a proper thread tapper!!!! HOWEVER IIRC the two bolts on the quickshift are M5, if not M5 im almost 100% sure they are a metric thread so you will need a metric thread tapper!!!

The threads don't need cutting into the gear housing because the mounting cup on the gearstick itself is threaded. So once the bolts are tightened there not really going to come loose.

might i add this is NOT a KAD quickshift!

i sold it as a quickshift, and i was advised to knock the pins out and screw the stainless bolts in until it was secure (i chucked the bolts in as it didn't come with them).

easiest way would have been to remove the whole linkage and do it off of the car mate , and make sure you had plenty of time to do it. never do these things on a time budget!! :craxy:

Ah all is explained now.

As Wilson and I have said you really need to have the housing at the bare minimum dropped down from the tunnel so you can work on it properly! :(
