Ok so now i have a query regarding the thing stuck onto the driveshaft. Its like a cir-clip, but with a square cross section as opposed to circular, can anyone identify this as to whether i need this or not? is it meant to be there or not?

Yes it is meant to be there - stops the CV joint going on too far.

The question is: where is the 'C' clip that should be in the groove?

Or is it just me that can't see it in the pic?

No, I can't see it either. There should be a wire circlip in the groove and this is what retains the CV. It has probably got mangled coming out and that is what stopped the joint coming off easily. Get a new one, they're important.

Yes it did get very mangled. Got a new one with the new CV joint worry not! Altho we did have alot of fun getting the CV joint over it.
