However i would definatly do them now as your engine is out of the car and that gives you the advantage!!!
Imagaine if in the future you need to get them off when the engine is in the car!!

They aint budging mate, the pry bar was bending way way WAY too much! If they dont need to come out I'll take the easier option! 
I managed to do mine with two large screw drivers but your must be well and truely
stuck. Have you tryed two bars one on either side of the
joint as when i tryed with one bar one side of my
joint it wouldnt budge.
Also there was a removal tool made by rover which is available but it costs like £15. But i was thinking maybe you could make your own?
Final thought have you tryed tapping the
joint with a hammer while it has pressure on it to try and shock it off so to speak?
