Lots of progress this week :)

Benross Racing have nearly finished the head refurb/upgrade, should be a cracker when it's done.

The block has been stripped and drilled for 11 head studs. That'll be getting dropped into Force Racing for new cam bearings tomorrow. There oil fed thrusts have done their job well, the thrusts are near on perfect after a load of abuse on the road and drag strip. The new rotating assembly will be going for balancing tomorrow too.

The new box is just about done, just need to fit the diff.

Got the new turbo butchered onto the metro manifold.

Getting there.

Thanks

Some ham fisted sod has snapped the bit of the waste gate arm that holds the actuator arm on (before we got the turbo).

Posted Image

So I've wobbled up a new one.

Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Turned out OK.

Then we pulled the engine out of my mini, dropped it in the van and shoved a few things on.

Should all fit and work. Actuator will be a bit of a pain though.

Got the oil drain sorted. Not pretty, but it should do the job.

Posted Image

Got the down pipe sorted. All lines up nicely, just needs welding up.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Got the short engine built.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Finished the gearbox

Posted Image

And stuck them together

Posted Image

Benross Racing has also finished the head refurb/upgrade. New guides and 30/36 stainless valves. In comparison to it's original 'Stage 3' porting, the chambers are massive and the ports look great, should be a big improvement. :D

Getting there :)

Got the downpipe welded up.

Posted Image

Noticed a bit of a restriction in the mouth.

Posted Image

So I ground it out a bit

You sure that Lambda sensor will be alright there? It says they should be 18-20 inches down the downpipe, further if it's turbo'd...

Looking sweet as though, that's a fine looking gearbox!

Thanks.

That's the factory position for the sensor on the SAAB, so it should be OK. I know a few people who have put them into the elbow on the T3 and it's been fine.

If not, I'll have to shift it :)

Fair enough, can't argue with that, I was just going with the AEM instructions.

Will this be making an appearance at MITP? :)

We hope so. We had to ask nicely for permission to run it last year as it's not a mini...

It should be at Avon on the 9th July and is taking part in the 16v Mini Club Annual Sprint the weekend after. Fingers need to be taken out...

It wouldn't be our van with out a rusty hole in the floor come MOT time...

Posted Image

Exhaust and fuel plumbing is sorted. I've shifted the fuel filter out of the way and plumbed it in after the pump.

Posted Image
Posted Image

Got most things slung in place in the engine bay, should all fit OK...

Posted Image

Also whipped the interior out so that John can have the pleasure of chipping of the sound deadening from the floors :P)
