been doing some preperations today for the change over. i took the first caliper off and it has siezed up on both pistons. the 2nd one has only siezed on one piston. im not too sure what to do about it. ive heard that overhauling the seals can be dangerous. this is one area that im not willing to take a chance on. i might have to get some nice 4 pots.

today i took the mini into my garden seen as it was a lovely day and got a few bits done. the rear rakes are now changed to the spacered type plus new studs. as for the fronts, i couldnt do the discs due to reasons above but the alloys do fit on the standard set up, i need to find out if there would be any problems driving it like this due to the rears being 1" wider on each side. so for now its staying put.
i also took the time to fit my new stainless overiders, plus polished up the front a bit. it looks so much better like this IMO. next job other than the brakes is to look at evening the ride height out and some new dampers.
for the first time for ages i actually got a good day to do stuff, i could have carried on for hours. felt really good getting hands on.

That takes me back, my first car was a '73 Mini 1000 in Black Tulip. My Mother bought it in 1982 from a local school teacher who'd bought it new in Northern Ireland with the reg AIB **** . The teacher recorded every petrol fill up, journey and service in school exercise books (each to his own I guess). Ma then gave it to me when I passed my test in '84 and I then thrashed it around Norfolk for two years before upgrading to a 1.1 Golf ( how much more modern did that feel!) My younger brother then took over the Black Tulip for six months before putting it into a ditch one night near the Lotus Cars factory and that was the end of her........Did sell the registration for more than we paid for the car so it wasn't all bad.
I have no idea why I'm telling you this but your car just brought back a lot of memories of some great times including Caroline T. - but thats another story altogether.
Thanks for the memories and good luck with your project.
