in vizards book there is a 1600 mini and ive heard about the Italian job minis having st engines at something stupid like 1750, which i find ridiculous!
also wondered what could be the biggest size got from a 998, or an 848 for that matter.
not that i want to do it... just asking.

Don't think thats quite right....in vizards book there is a 1600 mini and ive heard about the Italian job minis having st engines at something stupid like 1750, which i find ridiculous!
Biggest you really want to go on a 1275 block is a 74mm bore.
Have a look at this page.

the biggest overbore that you can do and still have a usable car is 1450 from a 1275

74.65mm is the biggest (I think not sure about the 65 but it was over 74) that was in a mini mag some time ago bet the cylinders are like paper.
I wouldnt have thought that 74.65mm bore would last 5 minutes.

They said it was like selling someone a grenade but keeping the pin.

SMMC have done 1600's before, 92mm crank.
They said it was like selling someone a grenade but keeping the pin.
Building an engine like that would be a total waste of money and parts. But would be good to do lol.

if i'd have met him 6 months earlier i would have been given the engine and a garage load of spares that he gave away.
in the book it says Triumph 2.5 pistons were used @ 74.7mm and 91 crank giving 1596cc

Next up is the "lightweight", 1275 block, offset to 74.7mm giving 1426cc with stock crank, the triumph 2500 are short, so the block has been decked as such. This one is going in an elf mk2
