This one was an experiment with natural light and a different background colour to what I wanted to use,

Three vessels, set at various distances from the camera (closer then the image makes it seem)
I’ve used a very high aperture on this one to create a very shallow depth of field.
This is to leave the other vessels as a blurred figure and almost bokeh effect I think it’s called.
i used a fairly long focal length of 50ish mm, this is as not to distort the image and make the vessels seem father apart.
i used a fairly high ISO on this one of 400.
Lighting is all natural no flash and no other lighting in the room, window above behind slightly and one to the left.
I also tried to create an almost reverse bokeh effect artificially by placing one of the three vessels very close to the end of the lens and focusing beyond it.
I was quite surprised about the amount of images I needed to take to get this shot; I only took around 40 at the time. I will be trying this in the studio; I only did it under natural light today as someone else had thieved my spot.

Settings:
Focal length: 52mm
Shutter speed: 1/100
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 400
Filter: No filters.

What shutter speed & aperture did you use on the pigeon ones? I tried doing something similar a few weeks ago but failed miserably, it was a dull day though so perhaps the natural light wasn't good enough.

It would depend on the light, if its a bit dull, set your ISO to 400 or higher and set your apeture to the lowest number. =] If your shutter speed is less that 1/30 then the image will most probably have camera shake.

If its still to dull, use your flash and set your shutter speed to 1/60 :ermm:
