Interesting thread, do MWS still flog these wheels? Has your friend still got his receipt off them?
Yes MWS do still flog these wheels! So don't buy a set
Im unsure whether my friend has the receipt. I doubt it, I have asked but he hasnt contacted me.

It'd be hard to do much without a receipt, but sounds like something trading standards might be interested in. Even if you friend paid by credit or debit card and has the transaction on a statement could be enough. If you did decide to contact trading standards etc don't do anything else with the tyres.
I'll see what MWS can do for me first. Then if they don't want to know, I might contact trading standards about the issue. Since MWS have managed to get the tyres on the wheel, it is possible, but they did damage the tyre putting it on. I fear the worst for the other wheels and tyres.
I love the deep dish look, and really wouldnt have anything else, hopefully Huddersfield deep dish ultralights have offset wells for easy tyre fitment. Its just a shame that I have to fork out another £300.

Yes, I remember the thread well! Thanks for the reply. Are the Huddersfield 10x6 wheels the ultralight ones? THESE
Do they have an offset well, like they should?
mine are the 6x10 Silver Minator ones, and i cant confirm about the offset wheel well, but they are definately able to have tyres put on them. ive had my front two changed without a problem.
apparenly mws have a machine that stretches the tyres over those wheels, and they are the only people who have the special machine to do it. but i spoke to many people about the problem and they all had damaged tyres when they were removed from the wheels. so its probably not the safest thing to use on the road. hence why i made sure mine went to a grasstracker and not someone for use on the road.
and i know some people have an opinion of huddersfield, but i got my wheels on the london to brighton run 2 years ago, they were £250, with tyres fitted and balanced, centre caps, and wheel nuts, and i havent had any trouble with them since. they look like they did the day i bought them!
hope you can get it sorted.

I have a set of their Dunlop D1 copies which are also badly designed - not in that the tyres don't fit but in the fact they don't fit on the 7.5" disk drive flange properly. Caused me loads of headaches and ended up with drive flanges being modified.

I managed to get the tyre fitted to one of the rims, a local motorbike place managed to do it for me, they heated the side to get it over. However, I took a raod trip through Wales, camped out for a few nights.
Guess what happened on the way home?
Very, very dangerous indeed.

I think I'd be getting rid of those wheels sharpish and just forget the cost - it will be cheaper than a damaged car or worse. It makes you wonder if there is a 'fit for purpose' argument against MWS with trading standards? I can't see how they could justify a wheel design that only they can fit tyres too (and then not necessarily successfully by the looks of things).

I believe all current design 6x10 Ultralites will be fine. Just be careful when buying second hand sets. IIRC, one tell tale sign, if you can't see the well, was the centre cap. The old design had a raised chrome cap. The new design has a flush fitting cap.

They are 'deep dish' with more offset than the standard 6 x 10 Minilite:
Minilite Mk11 6x10 ET-15 offset
£65.50 each + vat.
Price includes centre caps , wheel nuts and UK delivery.
Available in silver or gold standard and other colours to order.

We had a some of these wheels a few years ago, direct from the importer, not MWS. No end of trouble with tyre damage. The wheels were redesigned some time ago to have an offset well and all the sets we sold were eventually replaced under warranty. But still caused us major grief.

i had 2 second hand ones, and purchased 2 brand new from MWS on friday, so unless they dug out some old stock just for me, i dont know whats happened.
however i went to minispares today and forked out for a new set of minator 6x10s, they have an offset well and tyres went on without incident. having looked on the net about this problem it would appear allot of people have experienced the same problem, and its not just the ultralites its also the other 6x10s!
additionally to this the guy i had to deal with at MWS was really arsey and just couldnt grasp what i was trying to do when i first contatced them, i WONT be useing them again.
