How To Fit An Oil Cooler?

Iv just ordered an oil cooler for my 1995 mayfair, originally it was SPI and stupidly unreliable so i dropped in a 1990 metro carb block. Loving the reliablity now but would like to fit an oil cooler for several reasons, one being she runs quit hot quit quick and have been told that its not the water getting too hot but the oil! Also to increase the life of the components as less heat will be better for the engine!
My question is - Who has fitted one? Iv been told to install it to underneath the alternator! Is this the best and easiest place? Did you simply bolt it to the subframe? Does it have to sit any particular way up? Is there anything major that i need to know before i start running the car with it on?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Make sure you fill it up with oil as well, it takes about a pint of oil.

If you bought a Mini specific kit it will be an easy fit - think there are instructions with it - or available on Mnispares site. It just replaces the oil transfer pipe on the front of the engine.
My tip would be to use 2 spanners when undoing the unions so you don't unscrew or overload the bits that stay put.

Can you fit an oil cooler to an MPi ? When I asked MS they said they don't do a kit for it?
Mini Sport do one: -

If your engine is getting hot quickly you have a cooling problem. The oil is getting hot because the engine is hot - most Mini engines don't need an oil cooler for normal road use and an oil cooler won't solve your problem.
