I got: A full set of gearbox bearings, including AAU1365 (woohoo!).
And, as a bonus, I finaly got an original Reece-Fish allan key (for tuning) and throttle linkage.
Oh, and there was one of those weird carbs attached to the linkage...
So... Tomorrow it's engine-out and gearbox stripping time
Today's needed for the Nissan, it splutters and caughts under acceleration.
And there are so many hoses and vacuum lines and stuff - phoaw... Carburettor from hell that is! :S

Jan

Can't wait to see how this fish carb performs . Never seen one before lol.
So couldn't I
My engine lift will not arrive before next week, not this as I thought.
So - what to do? I had a little play with the Fish today.
Took of the HIF44 and put on the Reece.
What to say? I fired up straight away!
To se what's gong on in the engine bay, I recorded it on video.
7pH1-sy3DNQ
You see, there are two major problems:
First is, it has some serious backfire.
Second is: if you look close, you see fuel squirting out of the carb as I press the accelerator!
And it's not a little amount... That thing needs some serious tweaking!
So: richer mixture and less fuel through the feed at the same time.
Sounds illogical? Not with a Fish!
And I have to search for air leaks in the very first place.
That will have to wait 'till tomorrow - it's freezing cold!
But hey - it lives!
The intake manifold needs some filing as it touches the centre exhaust pipe (one possible reason for a leak!).
I think I get either the intake or exhaust manifold ceramic coatet for better heat insulation.
Cheers,
Jan

I had the idea for this for about 6 years no but never could be ar*ed to get it started...
Realy like the centre binacle, but I always wanted it to look something more special.
And I found it troublesome to integrate a rev counter in a way it looks 'right'.
I had one for quite a time mounted on top of the steering column.
Wasn't happy with that look - especially when I fitted a MkIII column.
So bought the Smiths gauges and now started building the thing...
'Smiths' gauges of a Triumph 2000/2500 (100mm) and a 52mm dual Smiths oil/water gauge.
What's left now is a fuel gauge in similar design and 52mm and some smal indicator lights with a very smal chrome bezel.
I exchanged the single speedo pod (Mk1) for a second centre pod with three guages, so cost me nothing.
I could've bought a pod without holes in it - but not for cheap...
What it should look like with the Triumph gauges:
I'm going to reverse the tacho later on with the guts of a Innocenti DeTomaso tacho to make it read anti-clockwise.
I had some sheets of plastic lying around I used to fill the holes:
Removing some plastic inside, carpenter-style-ish:
Fitting in the plastic:
And a second sheet from behind. The cutouts are for the wire-clamps the chrome surround attaches with.
They would've been too short and I was too lazy to do some new ones...
I used 2 component glue to hold it together. But it needs at least 12h to dry, I'll give it 24h for that.
Once it's dry - I'm putting in 4 holes, covering it with leatherette - and job's done
cheers,
Jan

The awfull Micra was dead and needed some major attention.
But now it's a daily-runner again and not a daily brake-down anymore
Ordered a big chunk of steel - but seems like I was a bit too optimistic with it's diemnsions
(Didn't take any measurements at al - did cost me only words)
That's going to be my engine liftting bracket - after some serious cutting
And a beautifull old plastic heater found it's way to me.
@Rosslin: I have the guts of a DAM2886 gearbox here.
I think they are A- with A+ bearings 8resp. 18mm mainshaft). Do you think they are better than the DAM5626 gears?
Are they still the closer A- ratio...?
Thanks!

Jan

the last boxes have the most problems, the early spi boxes are ok dont know about the ratio
The gearbox I'm going to use is a early SPI one so should be ok Thanks!

Smaler 5" wheels now sold... Anthracite ones are 5.75" wide. Love them for the bigger dish
They look very good on the pictiures, but the clear laquer starts to peel... They've been sat in a french barn for years.
Otherwise I've not done a thing on the Mini... Only got a Inno DeTomaso gauge cluster to convert the Smiths tacho (runing counter-clock wise).
Cheers,
Jan
