Couldn't justify to cut up the white door, as it's RUST FREE.
So it has to serve as a temporary fix 'till I get the repair panels for the original door.

Sweet. If it were me, I'd just keep driving it like that. Buuuut i'd refit the wingmirror. :proud:

Rather than buying repair panels, just buy a new door skin, then use the non rusty bits of the old door skin to repair the frame.

I have to, at least as a temporary measure.

I CAN'T replace the whole door skin! as this would mean I'd loose the 27 year old pin stripe... Which is an absolute NO-GO. Hadrian does bottom repair sections, they'r too cheap to start bashing your own panels :w00t:

Made it a bit more boy-racer-ish ^_^

And to make the noise suit the boy-racer-door, I made this:

I'll just leave this here...

PI5pk257sUE

Surpsrising to her that, behind the wheel I mostly hear the engine, not so much the exhaust. Cool!

Notso cool: compression on cylinder 2 & 3 is down by at least 3 bar. That means off with the head and pray it's only the head gasket. Oil down the bores doesn't improve things, so I have approprite hope it'S not the rings. Spark plaugs are rusty, though... I hope there was no water in the cylinders during the winter break... :D/

Cheers,
Jan

However, we have a problem with that engine... :)

Before mentioned rusty & green spark plugs:

Posted Image

Almost gone head gasket...

Posted Image

And water damage in the bores....

Posted Image

Looks like coolant was burned and ran down the bores when the engine stood for a while (or was switched of when hot)... This has scored the bores and probably taken out the piston rings. Why the gasket let got - I can olny guess it's a ignition related problem, as I had pinging every now and then but never got rond to retard the timing a bit.

Anyway - engine's back together, has one bar more compression with a new gasket and needs to last for little while, as I can't swap engines right now - the Merc has top priority as it needs to move to another place (which it can't right now as I chopped away too much metal :) ).

Back up engine is in the cellar - I'll assemble that slowly and then swapp it over.

The engine will probably last a little longer, as the damage is obviously not new at all.

Cheers,
Jan

Pretty badly... Cylinders 2 & 3 are down to 1 bar compression, but I think that's the gasket gone once more... But, and that's the alarming bit - cylinder 1 & 4 are down to 7 & 8 bar.

Engines's out and a hot-ish 998 being build at the moment...

- 1275 cam (Metro)
- 1275 head
- 998 A+ short block
- 3,76 diff
- the usuall stage 1 stuff

And best of all, it doesn't need pockets so will bolt straight on.

So basically I build a complete tuned 998 power unit out of left overs. And whilst that get's destroyed, I'm building a new version of the knackered 1275 ;) Also found some perfect gears for the GT close ratio box. So I'm going to build that as well ;)

:(

How'd you manage that??

I didn't believe the internet blah blah and tried it... Fact: with a std. 1275cc cam no pockets are required! Neither is CR an issue. Calculated at 10.5:1 - chambers in head ccd to 22 to 22.5cc. Piston to deck clearance 0.5mm, head gasket thickness compressed 0.75mm. Bolt on, plug & play. Simple.

And goes very well. Like a std. 1275. Needs a bit more revs and lacks a bit power below 3000RPM, that's the difference to a 1275.
