There's just something about a black Mini with Exactons and Mini Special arches.

Hence why I'm being a copy cat Jan :D.

:w00t:

You can't imagine how *melon* those 145 12"ers handle  I was scared. Just scared at how CRAPY they are  Hmm - might have to do with the 3 digit DOT code :-

Feels like driving on eggs. I want my 10"s back! Well, tomorrow I get two new A008s on the front wheels and everything will be fine again. I just put those 12s on to drive to the tyre changer's. And I swor to myself that no tyre chnager will ever touch my car again... They allways insist on "I just nipp them up a bit with the air gun - don't worry!" *FXXX XXX!!*. No way! :)

Cheers,
Jan

Someone asked me about the exacton's center & wheel nut covers. I took some measurments - and thought maybe someone else could find them handy. So here goes: http://img708.images...actoncovers.png

Haha, how odd, I'm stealing your look and that new look of yours (temporary I hope :-) is how mine used to look :w00t:.

I'm going to cheat with my center caps and nut covers. I've found that rattle can lids fit perfectly in the centers, so I've got 4 of those for that and I'm going to buy a set of Corsa C plastic wheel nut covers and cut them down. They aren't quite the same shape, but should still give the same idea .

Would be nice if someone could use your measurements and get them made up out of billet aluminium though :D.

We have lots of smale scale industry here - I'll have look; maybe it's possible to remake them in rubber :) Looks like there's a demand for them...

Corsa C sounds interesting, though! I'll have a look at that :P

Oh, and yes, of course it's only temporarily :w00t: But... Would be a shame to leave the tyres rotting away...

Hehe, I'm a bit excited if you say there is so much difference between the narrow wheels and the exactons with a008's. I've never driven a mini on 10's properly :w00t:.

Last time I saw any center caps on eBay, i think they went for a pretty penny.

These are what I'm talking about Jan: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item3caeb29e44

Not ideal by any means.

Yes, you would guess the 12's smaler sidewalls should be stiffer... Looks like there's more to it. Though - my 145 12" tyres are pretty old. But I can understand now why people say 10s handle better. Admitedly though - 165 12" Yokohama A539 are great!

Erm - nope :w00t: Dunno, maybe VW caps? But I have no idea if they'r not too big perhaps... :D

Yeah, that's how I thought too. I thought 10's would allow the car to side step alot more as you took a corner.

I drove a car on 10's for about a minute before I broke it (woops), but it was using Camacs and it was an inch wider at the front than the back, haha. So I'd best not use that as what it should feel like.

Can't wait to drive Elliot on 10's with the suspension setup properly though.

Cheers for the link again Jan :w00t:.

With Falken tyres yes (they have rather soft & bulbous sidewalls), but not so much with Yokohama A008s (much stiffer & straighter sidewalls). I think it realy depens on the tyres you choose. The 12" tyres I tried were 11 years old Firestones. But Yokohama A5somethings 165 tyres are pretty good on 4.5" rims. :) And I've been told Flaken tyres on a 6 or 7" wide wheel start to get as stiff as A008s. :)

Sooooo - got a new badge on the rear today; means two years 'till the next TÜV (MOT) test :(
And since they put the emissions test as a part of the regular TÜV/MOT this year - I realy have two years before any test :)

NICE! And I passed the TÜV without any fault; except the driver's mirror has too many blind spots - but it's nothing major so I passed without a problem :)

Cheers,
Jan

Yeah, well as I say, my friend was running Camac tyres, which not only have pretty lax sidewalls but I think they're cross ply tyres as well, they were completely useless. I've never really seen A008's properly so it's good to hear they've got stiffer walls, I imagine they'd be even better on 6" wide wheels.

Congratulations on the MOT/TUV! Jealous that you only have to have one every 2 years though! But then again, I imagine things like rust are less of an issue for you :D.

What is that orange sticker on the back of your car? From that picture it almost looks like a hazerdous waste sign saying it's not enviromentally friendly and it kills fish! If it is, I want one!

I could save you the trouble, as I have a pot full of the rubbery/plastic nut covers. They’re the same as used on the 25 and you can still buy them new.

If only I had a tyre changer myself :D I'd play with tyre/wheel combinations all day long :)

Thanks! I guess all the work payed out in the end. But rust - well; I hope the insurance pays out and it's enough for a welder. 'cause it's starting to rot on all ends... :genius: But looking at your projekt - well, I guess everything can be fixed. Big hats of to you!

The sticker is a 'environmental hazrad' one :teehee:

Posted Image
[Umweltgefährlich = dangerous to the environment]

http://en.wikipedia...._hazard_symbols

The story behind that is; the government (based on a EU regulation by the way.) started to introduce the 'Umweltzone' (= 'green zones') in large-ish citys, wich you may only enter if your vehicle achieves a certain emissions standard. Which means; at least has a closed loop catalytic converter fitted. If your vehicle has a cat, you get a green sticker (or yellow or red one for diesel engines) to the front screen and may enter the 'green zones'.

Everything else is considered the ultimate thread to the environment and absolutely deadly for the population - so I though it'S a good idea to tell people that my car represents a extreme hazard to the environament :D

They’re the same as used on the 25 and you can still buy them new.

Where...? :xxx:

Cheers,
Jan

So there are places in your country where you cannot drive your Mini Jan? That's not cool!

The sticker is genius though! I want one!

What parts are rotting? It looks to be holding up pretty well to me. You're right though, as long as you have enough patience, you can fix anything to some degree! Elliot is by no means going to be winning any beauty prizes, especially not the boot floor. Maybe next time these areas need attention, I might have enough money to be able to just replace the affected areas with Heritage parts :D.

Karlos, I might have to take you up on those sir :).

EDIT: Also, that picture you posted Jan, shows the exact reason I love the Exacton/A008/Special Arches combo, they just fill out the arches so perfectly. It really winds me up when Minis are over arched, it looks daft. These are spot on though!

Not at all! And even worse; they can charge me with a point and 50€ fine if I do... :)

eBay ;) Or you DL the wikipedia file and have some printed :) If all fails, I still have one or two of them. If you don't mind the text being german :teehee:

Bootfloor, heelboard, rear valance, inner sills, boot floor, A panels, doors, rear subframe, front wings, A pillar (vent hole)... But all still doable ;)
