its actually not an 8v or a 16v.........

and it was fuel injection, but i will be using carbs on it for 3 reasons,

reason 1, the original inlet/plenum is really tall, and sticks up way above the cam cover,

reason 2, fuel injection is the work of the devil

reason 3, its an economy thing on this particular car not performance, so i dont think it would cut it on a high reving build as i am planning.

anyway, todays progress takes me up to this point, i have the head, cam belt, pulleys, tensioner, and all other bits and bobs from the jap engine at my house, and upon offering it up to the 998cc gasket i have i can see 3 head stud holes line up perfectly, the two between these are very close, so i can mill the holes in the head 4mm apart to allow the bolts to use the existing holes, and the back row of studs/bolts will have to be totally drilled fresh in the block.

some of the water ways line up, and so does the oil feed taking oil up to the head, i will have to pick a good spot for the oil drain coming back to the block, but i think this will probably going in through the old fuel pump position,

hope all that made sense, i will get some photos up as soon as i can,

gold star for you my friend, it is indeed a 12 valve, but i never seen one rigged up this way, its a weird arrangement, i had no idea it was a 12 valve till i took the cam cover off

Charades were a 3 pot too, well, the GTi was a 3 pot turbo 1 liter thing with 100bhp.

Proton MPI?

It's the only thing i can think of that's 12v

its a single cam which is a layout i never seen before, its clever but simple how it works, no one has come close yet with a guess, i had never heard of this car before, but i have seen another one on the road since pinching the head of this one.

i need a 998 block now to get to work on, anyone got a spare one?

Charades were a 3 pot too, well, the GTi was a 3 pot turbo 1 liter thing with 100bhp.

I thought that at first, but I found somewhere that listed some later ones as 4cyl. Someone local had a 3cyl GTi turbo, it was a bit mental.

Any hints on the age of the donor?
