Hey good thread, shame it's mostly random guesses, (there aren't that many Japanese manufacturers guys).

I think this looks good, can see why you'd want to keep it quiet for now, but did you realise one of the photo's shows the manufacturers mark and gives the game away! I'll keep shush though! :strongsad:

Dave

I've seen it and we still couldnt guess ! brilliant project though - shows great promise.

i was aware that the makers mark was on parts of it yes, but thought i had covered it up in most images, in some shots it would be blatantly obvious if the camera was better, its not really a secret anymore anyway, if anyone else can be bothered to try it be my guest, its not an easy conversion by any means lol

as soon as xmas is over im going to get cracking on it,

Can't think of a Jap engine only a Malasian one. Proton had a 1.3 12 valve didn't it?

That would be Japanese then. Much of Proton's engineering has been coming from Mitsubishi over the years.

I spent 18 months looking at 16 v/v tc heads to fit minis, and there were some cars that came close but not quite. The bmw bike is all right for a large bore but need a lot of block work to fit a small bore eng.
The ones that I fit are off a honda cbr 600 bike, but the suzuki gxtr 600 also are a good fit. There is also a yamaha[late model] 600 that fits as well.
You are better off with a bike head , they are built for power and revs.

My vote is for the Honda 1984 to 1987 CRX (USDM) z-block engine (I have an 87 FI one rated @ 90hp) - 1500cc 12 valve with carb or FI - Not too popular over in the States anymore - all the kids want the B-series, I'd settle for a 1.6L D-series VTEC. Hey Cradley-Heathen - keep your toys, I don't want to play anymore.
