Ok, so here goes….
… let me introduce you all to David and Goliath… no, these won’t be there names as I haven’t decided if the names they have should be posted on the open forum….
First off, the MG Midget… real impulse buy here, James posted the thread for it a while back and I just jumped right in, it’s a ’79 1500cc model that’s a runner and in not too bad a condition. Plans include all new rear suspension (bought, ready for fitting) and generally give it a bit of a restore and have fun over the summer… we’ll see after that…

Right, now for the biggy…. The Rover….. Oh my God, the Rover… what have I done….please, if anybody has an idea to get a couple of cars as projects, for Gods sake, talk it over with the ones who matter… unlike me… but that’s another story.

Ok, another impulse buy… more out of spite that anything else really.
It’s a 1960 Rover P5 3ltr straight 6 (MK1)
The piccies on ebay made it look sooo nice, the chap said he’d been restoring it over the last 11 years since buying it from the original owner… what exactly he restored in that time, I’m not sure… although, when I had it running, the motor sounded sweet and under the bonnet all the gaskets had been replaced and generally the bay looked good.

Thing is though, the body panels don’t seem to line up with any known form of reference, luckily though, they do just bolt on and off. Same can’t be said about the liberal amounts of filler….
Plans for the old dog are to get it through the MOT (more chance of this one passing at the moment than the MG!!!) and run it for a week or two before converting it to LPG, that way, the 22mpg turns into 44mpg (kinda)

Enjoy the pics

You might change your mind when you see it up close... there's a lot to be said for distance shots...
But thanks.

I've decided that, weather and Soo permitting, I'm going to strip the rear suspension on the MG tomorrow.. just wish the workshop manual had arrived.
I've got new leaf springs, bushes and damper arms... got a pretty good idea what I'm doing, doubt I'll get both sides done by the time I have to go to work tho'

Thanks, I first saw a P5 Saloon when I was 16, de-chromed/ handled Woolfrace slots, twin cherry bombs and a massive 4.5" roof chop (remember, saloon not coupe) fell in love. Wanted one ever since... 20 something odd years ago.

Due to a little 'Re-think', I toying with the idea of moving the MG on. I really want to get the Rover ready for MITP, but all the while it's stuck a work, it's not going to happen.
So, if anybody fancies a little project for the summer....... it owes me just over a grand, I didn't do the suspension the other day, so those parts will be included. (might even throw in the Rostyles)
I still want to get Soo a mini, so could be interested in a deal involving a Tahiti blue Cooper.
PM me.
