Chris has put a monte carlo and a vtec car through an SVA test and both passed. I will be putting a minus z-car through soon and then the pickup after it's modifications.

For passenger and light goods vehicles modified after registration a voluntary (non statutory) test to the requirements is available. In this situation a letter of compliance may be obtained.

as far as i am aware i dont have to have one for my V8 mini, and i'm sure Ed won't for this. as stated above a voluntary (non statutory) test is available for a letter of compliance. so maybe your insurance might request a letter of compliance, or some sort of Engineers report, so they know the conversion is of a safe standard.

Any mini that has had it's monocoque bodyshell altered drastically such as this should have an sva test. This has been mentioned several times before but the general consensus is to just take it for an mot and hope no one questions it. I did mine this way because of not knowing any different and haven't had any problems but now I am aware of the correct procedure it will have an sva before it goes back on the road.
Try this page for further info - http://www.dvla.gov....es/regrebil.htm

This is the main bit that relates to modifying a monocoque bodyshell.
B. Radically Altered Vehicles
This covers vehicles which are substantially altered from their original specification, but which are not kit conversions.

In these cases the vehicle components used from the original vehicle will be given a numerical value and, in order to retain the original registration mark the vehicle must score eight or more points.

If less than eight points are scored or a second-hand or modified chassis or altered monocoque bodyshell is used an ESVA/SVA/MSVA certificate will be required to register the vehicle and a 'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated

I seem to remember Pete saying that it actually doesn't have to have a collaspable steering column as the original mini ones are already type apporved?? Would be best to ask him about it though as he is doing a lot of looking into the rules about what passes and what doesn't??

The way i look at it if that butchered mini on scrappy racers can pass then it really can't be that strict!!! :withstupid:

But surely that would have used all mini parts, and had a Q plate because it wasnt an original body shell???

Well it wasn't all mini parts... (i think they actually used two minis chopped together?? ) and the shell was drasticly altered so yes that would have been a Q plate.

But it is possible if you use all new parts to SVA it and register it as a new 06 plated car........ :withstupid:
