Spent most of the afternoon getting the rear end lined up so i can drive in a straight line,
The floor bar is now tacked in, and the first part of the frame is chopped to meet it.
Then i tacked the frame to the floor bar and double checked everything to find that the wheels werent sticking out the same amount so i had to shift it about 0.5cm for it to be correct.
Now im going to get my brother to help me check its all lined up with the front and square.
If that happens tonight then tomorrow i can do the diagonals to the frame!!
Then i can do the suspension mounts so it can sit on its own wheels again!! :P

After the measuring last night i was able to start on the diagonals today.
Only got 2 done (too much slacking) so hopefully ill get the other 2 done tomorrow.
Also had an idea to run another length of tubing between where the door bars fix on the rear cage,
so it runs across the back of the seats,
and provides somewhere to mount harnesses.
Im also going to use the rear bars from the cage (that i cut off) to make a bar for the front subframe.

looking absolutely cracking mate!

One thing, I can't see whether or not the frame is removable now you've welded those triangulation pieces into place? From the pictures it looks like the only way to remove the frame would be to cut the braces off near the vertical section....

I'm probably wrong, just a thought though!

:P

Thanks, :P

The diagonals arent welded in yet,
im going to remove more of the metal so the frame can be dropped out.
I just left as much in as i could so there was less to revert back should it have gone tits up.

Thanks, ^_^

The diagonals are done for the other side now,
even after the belt sander decided it wanted to eat my T-shirt and rip the rubber of its drive cylinder :(
so i had to fix it and then i got back to doing the bars.

Tomorrow i should hopefully be removing some more metal so there is clearence to drop the frame,
and for the suspension,
and if i have time ill start the suspension mounts.

Didnt get much done over the weekend,
but today i chopped out the wheel wells
so now there is room for the suspension and have now tacked the diagonals in place.
Next i need to start the suspension top mounts and support for the floor to the floor bar,
followed by dropping the frame and welding it all up. :(

Rather than spending £100 (for a basic one) on a custom made alloy fuel tank,
i was thinking of making one out of steel and cutting up a mini tank to provide the filler and sender unit? Would this be a really bad idea? would it break any regulations/laws? or could i do it?
Was thinking the mini tank is steel anyway so could see a problem with it?
Obviously i'd check it/have it checked for leaks etc.

:( ^_^

Yeah 50cm wide is just the right amount.
Theres one on ebay but its slighly different.
Might bid if it doesnt go for much.
How much was the plastic tank?

Got the cage/frame out today!! and have started on the suspension mounts.
Tomorrow Im going to be welding the frame up,
and i may yet add another bar or two!

So once it's on its wheels ill clean it and give it a lick of paint for now.
Then i guess its just putting the engine in and then putting it back in the car
(i have a few bits to sort in the car first though.)

Got the Kitcar show at Newark on Saturday, and then the mini show in Scunthorpe on Sunday with the TMF lincoln mini meet on Saturday night!!
So its a busy weekend, hopefully I might get a few bits at the shows.

Don't weld your own fuel tank. Even with a really good mig weld there will be tiny holes in the weld that will seep out fuel.
