I think ill do the drums for now and once its all working i can look into discs at the rear.
Maybe some ye olde 7" discs would work (with hand brake modification)? ;D

How about some Ford Granada Scorpio rear callipers. They have a handbrake function built into them, they is compatible with the mini handbrake system and they fit over soild mini disks. I'll take some pics if you like.

Love the project so far, it's a nice home built car with out a silly budget.

:D Cool, rear calipers ;D
After looking at the drum CVs i was starting to worry about their size!!
and the shafts are the skinny ones, but cant you use the thicker ones?

Yeah the only reason i do things myself (apart from enjoying it) is that i never have enough money for a budget, so the only way i get things like this is by having ago myself.
The bad thing is i could end up with a pile of expensive scrap metal!!
But if its all ok then ill most likely be making another frame.

Have rebuilt the master cylinders, and now they are installed
Have also tried bleeding the brakes but the bleeding brakes wont bleed very well,
so will try again tomorrow.

After removing the flywheel yesterday (had to make something to lock the flywheel so i could undo the bolts),
so now ive put the other gearbox, that im actually going to use, in the frame and connected it to the engine,
and because its bigger ive had to tweek a little bit but nothing major,
so tomorrow ill be finishing the tweeks and then it should all be in place for the engine mounts to be made,
so ill be happy if i can get the mounts made by end of the weekend / start of next week. So apart from that i guess the next thing is to hack out the back of the car and weld it all in ;D
but i think ill try and sort other stuff out first (dont know what though).

Well today was ok considering i had to sort out some other stuff (none mini related ^_^ ),
and so when i eventually got into the garage i got a few things done.
I finished the tweeks, and got the engine and gearbox sitting correctly, and this has allowed me to work out where the engine mounts are going (doesnt sound like much, but it took long enough),
so as long as i have that material i should be able to get them done by the end of the weekend. :-

Havent been able the bleed the brakes any more as my brother got back from work about 1/4 hr ago, so maybe later or tomorrow. :D

Wow, few days since my last update and its already on page 3!!!
(I guess page 3 isnt always that bad :D :D )

Ive done most of the welding on the frame, ill go all over it and clean it up and any splatter. Ive added the brackets for the lower arms, so there shouldnt be anything else to add to the frame, just some trimming and tidying up.
Ive also modified the gear change levers on the gearbox,
i now just need to make the plate to hold the cables and the clutch cylinder,
and im leaving the modifing of the gearstick for when its in the car.

So there isnt much left to do with the frame out of the car and the car in one piece, so it could be at the weekend when cut the back out!! :D
Which means as soon as i do the mini engine and associated parts (exhaust etc) arent needed any more!! so they will be for sale!

Havent taken anymore pics as the frame doesnt look that much different from before as its little things that have changed.

Made the bracket that holds the gear change cables today so there isnt much/anything left to do with the frame off the car!! (just a quick tidy)
So i will probably be inside the car tomorrow bolting the cage to the floor (didnt get around to that before),
and so i may start to drop the rear subframe tomorrow as well!!! all ready for cutting out the back over the weekend!! :'(
So the exhaust will come off, and i guess it can be sold with the other engine bits.

tip on cutting out the floor mate use some high quality tin snips like the stanley ones (£15 quid i think), thats what i used for mine and it was surprisingly very easy, its fine once you get started plus you get quite a neat finish and no where near as messy as an angle grider

Will probably be using a jigsaw as i used that to cut out the rear seat pan and it worked really well,
you get metal filings but no sparks.

Cage is bolted in, so will be dropping the rear subframe tomorrow
(may start this evening)
and depending on how long that takes it will be a case of chopping out the back!!!

Alburglar,
it looks like you are using these on a z cars conversion, that uses their trailing arms hubs ect.
do you know if these will fit into a front mini hub, as ed4ran and myself are using front mini subframes mounted in the rear. currently i'm using front hubs with drums, and a modified back plate for the hand brake operation.
if these calipers would fit front hubs and disks i think i would convert to rear disks

if Alburglar doesnt know or isnt prepared to pull one off and try it on a mini front hub, then i guess we could try emailing/PM'ing Chris from Z-Cars to see if he would know or be willing to find out.

Tonight I got bored so i whipped off the rear subframe (as you do).

So now the big chop is tomorrow. :proud:

I think they'll fit over a normal mini disk so you'd just have to figure out how to mount the caliper. Give z-cars a ring I'm sure they will help
