Just for information, anyone being daunted about changing the outer CV because that the haynes states "an assistant is required". This is not so, nor is is necessary to remove the driveshaft from the inner CV.

I did everything else by the book, apart from:

To knock the joint off the shaft, push the shaft back into the inner CV then, using a g-clamp or other suitable clamp, clamp the drive shaft to the bottom arm. There is a groove on the shaft which will assist. Then bash off as per the book.

Refitting: Again go by the book - apart from compressing the circlip with two screwdrivers. One screwdriver will suffice, if you are careful and patient. Push the new joint up against the circlip, then poke it into its groove using one small flat screwdriver. As you poke the circlip, maintain the force against it. You will need to poke it in several places, but eventually the joint will go over it. Then just tap the joint home with a soft mallet.

Info may be of use to some :(

christ never knew the haynes told you to do so much...i've never bothered reading up on it.

I usually just whip the hub etc off and the outer boot, then grab me trusty lump hammer. hold the driveshaft with one hand then club the back of the CV with the lump hammer, one smack and its off. it wont budge with a normal hammer though has to be a bfh. refitting is the reverse of removel but with the castle nut on to stop damaging the thread :(

I have a piece of 2x3 I use... lol

Only thing is, when putting CV back on, I usually hit the shaft and not the CV, this mean I can make sure the circlip does not get trapped, the screw driver method is a good just to make sure...

But, no, like most things on a mini, the special tools are usually replace by a hammer, or large screwdriver or block of wood..
