I think modifying some limited editions is ok .. as long as they are a little beaten up so to speak.. I'm doing up a chelsea, which is in a poor state, you might as well spend the money on stuff you like..

Thats a good point, before I had it resprayed I put on new a-panels new passenger door, new sills so really it was a multicoloured mini for around a month...looked like this

Phew, at least I'm not the only one...
I'm putting a union Jack roof on my 30 and some people find that sacrelidge..

But as you stated, I find it ok if the car isnt in a prime state (which mine isnt!)
With all the dents and paint patch jobs on the roof, I think it will look better with the union jack..
I put the primer on earlier in the week, but the white spray can malfuntioned on me so I'm hoping we are going to keep a few dry days so I can finish the paintjob before I put the decals on..

I'm keeping the original colour on the rest of the body though, quite like it.. even though it is red and I seem to have bad luck in red cars (bright red ones actually so I might be lucky in this one)
The paint is a pain to get by though.. it needs to be custom mixed..

I have to say that I beleive that you shouldn't modify limited editions, but do believe that what you have done a good job to your 30.

Likewise with my 30 I am going to keep it the same colour when I respray it (Ilike the cherry red) and have actually taken it back to its former glory on the exterior....but with the interior I have changed it dramatically with low back bucket seats etc...

No offense but arent you contradicting yourself now?

You say 'you shouldn't modify limited editions' and later on you tell us you modified your 30 :w00t:

I think you can modify a limited edition but if it is in a near mint condition it is better to keep it original...

I do agree with you on the mini 30 colour, it is very nice indeed :P

p.s. how 'limited' is the 30 anyway?
If you look here:
http://www.theminifo...pic=7905&st=90
You'll see that there are allready 4 members with a 30...

I do realise I have contradicted myself, but the modifications that I have made to my 30 are very easy to put back to original. :w00t:

I agree with you that if it is a mint limited edition then it should not be changed... with mine it is distinctly noticeable as a 30 as it is entirely original except for a chjange of alloys(but have originals).

With regards to how limited the 30 is here are the details:

3,000 cars built, 2,000 were in Cherry Red and 1,000 in Black

The 30 was the start of leather interiors....

who cares what anyone thinks??????
do you like it?
if the answer is yes then you have done the right thing.

these millitant mini "fans" really hack me off. one of the joys of mini ownership is making your mini "your own" i am reshelling my 1971 GT and will not be keeping it totally standard, but will be updating bits that i think need updating i.e making it the car that i want. i will get, no doubt, anoraks telling me that i shouldn't have put a fag lighter in the car, as it isn't original, but i smoke, so therefore want a fag lighter. we need to stop worrying what people think and do what we want to do with our cars. after all it is us that drive them...not the anoraks....... i feel better now :w00t:)

love the thirty by the way

Mine is a destict 30 too (at least on 1 side where the decal is still there :P
But it has so many small ding's you could hardly call it mint :dontgetit:

Do you have a guesstimate of how many of the 2000 red 30's are still on the road?

If we look at the list in the thread posted previously it seems to be that there are still quite a few there.. on the other hand 30 drivers might be more likely to join the forum.. :dontgetit:

P.s. saw a mini 30 interior go for about £50 on ebay the other day.. thought it was a bargain..

I do agree with your comments....I am making modifications to mine that I would be able to remove if/when I sell it. The future modification being the most dramatic one in that there is a 1293 lump being dropped in the front!!! I also have plans for a rollcage etc...

I'd say there are still plenty of thirtys around, theres always at least 3 for sale in the backs of mini mags every month. There were quite a few thirtys made compared with other limited editions, but i'd say they are the nicest.
Heres a few more pics I've taken of her today...
