Carried on with the rear floor repairs today.

New panel cut roughly to shape

IMAG0757_zpsb3331e8e.jpg

Old floor cut out and the crossmember treated and given some paint along with weldable primer along the edges

IMAG0761_zps11145f53.jpg

Then new steel welded in

IMAG0763_zpsa8e6bca5.jpg

As always I need to tidy up the welds but I keeping that off and will do all of it in one go.

Now that the rear end floor is pretty much complete I removed the bracing I welded in and then fitted the doors to check nothing had moved... Thankfuly the doors lined up ..... phew

The rear looks a lot more enclosed/smaller now

IMAG0771_zpsa6916b24.jpg

Then moved onto the n/s inner wing, here we go again :(

IMAG0774_zpse3bfc16a.jpg

I test fitted the new inner wing and the fit is terrible, plenty of metal bashing tomorrow

Cheers guys, I have done a bit more since but it's nothing worth posting about. It's all on stop for now until I get around to ordering some more paint etc

Hey. Just seen your comment about the passenger side inner wing. I came to the conclusion that my BMH panel was miles off, almost like it had moved while being formed if that's possible. Probably not, but the profile where it meets the A post was half an inch out at the top.

Anyone else had problems with this part? http://www.minispare...ls/14A7901.aspx

(Just posting that for reference only, nothing to do with mini spares!!)

Cheers

Mine was exactly the same miles out at the top. The only solution I could think of was to cut a series of slices and use self tappers to put the new wing into shape, then I welded the slices up.

As with most things life has got in the way and the van is sitting pretty much as it was in the last post :-(

however the other mini has its MOT in the next month and once its past its out of the garage for good as I've promised myself that I'm going to stop playing with it ( for now).

Which means come april /May I can carry on with the van :-)

I'm about to begin on the A pillar area this weekend. Can you post a few more pics of how you made the inner wing fit up?? I have heritage panels onthe way as well as the new door jamb and the pillar panel...

Won't be able to get pictures for a while, the van is tucked away at the back of the garage.

Nice work mate. Love to see these van's being done.

I'm glad you kept that reinforcing plate between the inner wing and cross member, It is important to have one as it strengthens the front of the car up, without it, the stresses endured by the front end would split your inner wings!

Not that many Mini's have much strength here as like you say they always rust away there.

Keep up the good work though, hope it's not too long before you can continue..

Cheers

Ben

Well the welder came out today. A small repair the the upper dash rail, turned out to be a pain in the rear.

I forgot to take a pic before but here it is almost finished.. A bit more dressing to the weld and I'll be happy

I'm not sure why but there was no weld on the vertical seam between the dash and A pillar :-/ ( same on both sides) either some one forgot when building it in the factory ? Or they weren't welded on earlier cars?

Inner wing got welded on today

IMG_20140420_173903_zpsvzuajmjj.jpg

As always the final dressing of the welds has been left for a later date.

Also I realised I have run out of new panels, time to spend some money :-(
