To put an MPI in easily, you really need a donor car to just rip everything out of, then put straight into the van. That cuts out pretty much all your issues, bar the fuel tank

Also have the issues with the rad and no mounts on the subframe.

Am i right in thinking the van is a twin bolt subby?

The engine that I was thinking about had pretty much everything with it, including all the injection gear! But I faffed! :P

I reckon you should go for it Bean, a 998 would be compromising and you'd just regret it once it was in  Spend the extra money and time on him, he'll be worth it in the end! Theres no rush is there? You've got Reggie to use while Frankies waiting around, hes not really costing you anything is he? :dontgetit:

Reggie's not costing, nope... but storage at the moment is! It's a very complicated situation we're in at the moment - It's tough trying to organise the whereabouts of 6 minis!

998 in a Van - spesh a working van = poo

I can tell you that from experiance :)

Is it really that bad?

Jean, don't mince about, put a honda in there :D

Don't tempt me! :P

The van is twin bolt, yeah - But Kris knows of a way to sort the mounts on the subby so we can use the existing subby! :)

Honda... nooo dont. A-series!

Also it is simple to add two mounts on the subframe, also remember the mpi's have a cutout on the front panel for the eleccy fan.

Ok, so... I want the power of a 1275, but with the reliability of an MPi ... But with being able to put it in a MK1/2 engine bay!?

Help? :D

The loom is going to be custom, anywho ... so that doesn't matter so much!

(It's handy having an electrician around the house!)

Spi's are better. Still injection but can use any 1275 block. Less things to go wrong too.

It puts out the same power of a MPi too.

Chris - If mine is even half as powerful as yours, I'll be happy! :D

Ted - I do know what you mean though, but I want the reliability more than I want the power, really!

don't forget though jean that Mpi gearboxes are made of cheese and will need rebuilding before putting it in, it's false economy not too

You dont need to run a front mount rad with an mpi - side mount works just as well. Also the brackets wouldnt exactly be hard to make. Not like its in a higher state of tune than any other A series. The mpi subframe has the mounts drilled 10 mm further forward for the injection stuff to clear, but its not like its hard to weld the old ones up and redrill them further forward - I did it in reverse with the blue mini - turned an mpi frame into a carb one. Thinking about it Jean, I've got a full Mpi setup i'd let go at the right price - engine, rad, injectors and manifold, alternator - pretty much everything. I'll do a bit of research, see what its worth
