Already been said, but decent quality parts rather than cheapo show type ones, can make a big difference. Since swapping my engine last summer Ive needed to replace lots of silly little bits because I used poo quality versions. Engine mounts being one, and they are not much fun!

Nah 3k should pretty much cover the full convesion to be honest.

When I say upgrades, I mean bigger/better brakes, better suspention etc...

1. Electronic ignition
2. Coil, HT leads, Cap, Rotor arm and plugs
3. Oil / filter change and keep changing it every 3k
4. New air filter/ clean
5. Engine tune, mixture and timing
6. New fuse box and spare fuses, once they start to corrode they can cause all sorts of electrical problems
7. Clean earth points, under the bonnet and the battery one in the boot.
8. Fit a smaller water pump pulley and belt, helps to spin the pump faster.
9. Flush the cooling system through and refresh the coolant.
And generally check the car over every few weeks, that way you’re more likely to spot problems before they happen or lead to a brakedown.
And keep greasing the ball joints, rear radius arms and adjusting the rear brakes.

I have metro leccy dizzy and Peugeot 306 tdi battery, and keep it serviced. Repair anything as soon as it breaks, and always investigate any funny noises or changes straight away. There should be no problems with reliability there, mini's are great daily cars if treated properly. If you neglect them and drive like a t**t then don't expect reliability!

1. Electronic ignition
2. AMP Superseal connectors for any connection in the engine bay, especially headlights
3. Rubber/latex glove over the coil connections
4. Regular servicing

Should be all you ever need!
