Ive been planing to change my 998cc engine for a turbo charged engine for a while now and since the head gasket on the 998cc has gone i decided now would probably be a good time lol. So what is the difference between the metro turbo engine and a n/a 1275cc engine i.e would it be best for me to buy a n/a 1275cc and convert it to a turbo engine or just go and buy a metro turbo bearing in mind i only really want to sqeeze around 100bhp out of the engine!!
Cheers Dan

At the fly! standard for the 1275 high compression engines is about 70bhp at the fly?? and metro turbo standard is about 80bhp at fly?? If i remember correctly??

For that power figure you could convert a 1275 but buying all the bits seperately will probably cost more turbo engines with all the ancileries seem to sell for around £500 on ebay for a surposed to be good one. The differences are forged pistons. treated cranks, sodium filled exhaust valves different inlet manifold. different carb specificaly for turbo, exhaust manifold and turbo and oil drain. high flow oil pump, dizzy is specific to turbo too (advance curve) and this is just the engine there are also a load of other bits needed to turbo your car. The site in turbo phills post had alot of info hope this helps

Ah thanks turbo mini site is really good help i think it makes more sense in my suituation to just buy a stardard 1275cc engine as i will be reboring the block anyway the only other things i would really need then are less costly items excluding the actual turbo and manifold and a X pin diff!!
