okay so i bought an SU carb from an auto jumble and i was under the impression was a hif44.

so i gave it a tiny clean up on the outside but while i was doing this i noticed some numbers on it which confused and interested me!

I found a JZX1611 on the inlet side and a PDC3 on the intake side.

It doesnt have the ID tag like the carbs ideally would do for easy identification. So this got me interested!

i measured both throats or whatever u want to call them (intake and inlet to me!) and they came out just a little bit bigger than 1-3/4inch and looking on the inside of the lip you can see where it has been opened up. But this is so smooth so i am lead to belive its either been done from the factory or by a really precise machining engineer.

Inside the carb it is as clean as they get! the only thing that is missing from it is the small C shaped clip that goes in the slot on the shaft to stop the top assembly coming off.

After having a quick search on google i found all SU made carbs start with FZX.
So i had a look at other main manufacturers numbers and i still couldnt find the numbers.

I thought in the end i would search for the markings i found on the carb on google. And returning from that all i got which was half useful was a link to harley davidson forum similar to our lovely one! Which had someone who posted a question the same as mine and they had the exact same numbers on one of their carbs.

And some smart alec on there said oh its an early Rivera SU Eliminator carb...
But then i noticed that they are supposed to have a brass tickler rather than the throttle assembly like on my carb!

It doesnt have SU or any other stamp on it anywhere at all!

I didnt know if anyone on here could help me!!

I am after identifying this carb so i can decide what to do with it!

Here are some pics!

It looks just like any other HIF44 (you can also see the PDC3 on the right of this pic)

AFAIK there exist two carbs: HIF6 with 1.75 Inch diameter at intake side.
And the well known HIF44 with 45mm(!) at intake side.

1.75 Inch are 45.45mm!
So this would explain the slightly larger diameter (and confirm my theory of TWO carbs :().

SU made many carbs for many different applications.
Some need some special modifikations (the brass thing, electric choke etc.), and I guess SU changed some minor things on the design during the years (i.e. SU tag or not, production date stamp or not and so on...).

This really is puzzling me..
I have a metro turbo carb a JZX 1161 but the Haynes states a it should be a FZX1411 speaking to other turbo owners they to have the JZX 1161, so what is going on.

Does the FZX1411 exist. If you go to the SU website there is no such carb as a the JZX1161 very strange..I'm trying to find out what's different.

The SU site lists the FZX1411 for the Turbo

Yep but there is no listing for the JZX1611 that's the really strange thing and that's what most people are using...cheers though
