Would a gearbox casing, Part No. 22A 1288, fit a 998 or 1275 engine? Its apparently from a Cooper 1100 motor.
The one I am looking at is all shiny and gold! Would look great under my flip-front!
Thanks!

no such thing as a cooper 1100.... they are either 970,997, 998, 1071 or 1275 but are all pre rod change and may have a magic wand or at worst a remote gear change. I know cooper remotes are getting difficult to find.

As for the colour, dunno, but a tenner for a can of gold paint would not go amis.

Didnt think i'd ever heard of a 1098cc cooper. Its just the casing. I am looking at a spare that I can build up with a decent gear set and fit as and when I can afford it! The casting number is stated so I'll google it. Thanks!

It'll fit to the engine, just will be a bit of a struggle getting it in the car ! unless you have a hole in the floor by your left foot :cheese:

I didn't say that, did I ? but they do seem to be a stop off between the magic wand and the rod change...

The actual gear change mechanism must have more moving parts than the gearbox itself, where as the rod change is so simple in comparison..

and for Matt would mean alsorts of work trying to put it into a later model shell.
