As I have the bottom arms and tie rods I saved a bit of money, but the frame, driveshaft’s, bulk head box and gearshift box came to just over £1100. If you kept the standard injection you may need to move the servo or masters over to the other side which is about another £100.

They are fantastic little engines with so much potential locked up by the nasty inlet that’s Lotus never designed to use it with and the bottom ends are bullet proof. Over 7k rpm and nothing needs uprating. So much easier than the A series and comes with 5 gears which is fantastic for motorway driving!

Cheers matt. I shall be designing a cople of air boxes over the next couple of weeks for it, and may try a couple of different materials to see what works best. I just can't wait to get them on an engine now.

Today I set to CAD'ing up the old airbox to see what improvements I can make to it. Once I have settled on a design I will get it cut out via our CNC cutters at work.

Here is progress so far.

Budget sounds quite good actually i had the frame in my head at £800 and the shafts at £300 so was looking at £1100 before any of the box's or other little things

Im differing from yourself as i idealy would like to keep the standard injection and ecu partly cause i know its generally good at what it does and works fine but mainly cause its also a major saving and my car has no servo so dont need to move that ;) just the masters may need moving from what i can remember although thats hopefully the easier job

the only part i cant seem to see a cheap way off doing is getting rid of the disastrous inlet system, the ITB's which your using are the ultimate off course :P but from memory when searching for kits when i was getting the corsa they were well over £1k which doubles the budget instantly

good luck with the build ill be watching this one closely oh and the cad works looking good, carbon IMO is one of the best materials to make it out of not just due to lightness and strength but also due to heat resistance which id imagine it would be good at?

Yeah the ITB's are expensive, and new are over double the price of your estimate ;) Matt from the 16V mini shop is currently putting the sandard injection into a round nose so it may be worth asking him a few questions.

the inlet manfiold from a corsa/tigra 16v fits in a mini , with no bulkhead mods , problem you get is the throttle body ends up pointing back at the subframe , and you really cant get any kind of filter on it , the best bet is to buy a after market bolt on inlet manifold for a 200 ish quid , this then bolts to the bottom part of the std vauxhall inlet , you then move the throttle body onto that , gives you more bhp , and you can keep the std ecu etc

A qucik update. I have managed to get a good deal on an engine. 67k on the clock for £200 with all ancillaries and an F15 close ratio gearbox so i am going to pick that up on Sunday. Then the following weekend I am goign tp pcik up an F13 wide gearbox from Summerset with 45k on the clock for £30. O_O

Then the real fun can begin :w00t:
