mmmmmm! looks so nice man!! so clean and pretty!! you'll have to keep her clean and tidy! lol

S discs do sit close when the proper S hubs arent used, just be careful that the steering arm isnt touching when its all torqued up... once mine wore a groove in a disc, i had to grind back the arm slightly, but proper S arms are available....

keep it up!

Ed

Thanks for the reassurance guys :).

Here's todays update real quick as I need to head out!

Posted Image
Driver side all torqued up and finalised. Need to shorten the bottom leg of that split pin though.

Posted Image
Passenger side. All done but again, split pin needs shortening on one leg.

Posted Image
Tried a wheel on. Might have issue covering these with special arches!

Posted Image
How they sit on the running gear.

Posted Image
And I got the garage cleaned up so I have more room to work with.

Thanks for looking, more tomorrow :).

Cheers,
Adam

It's brilliant to see some of my favourite threads that I have always followed closely finally getting to the point where the cars are back to rolling around on their own wheels :)

Thanks for the comments guys :).

Here's some more:

I'd heard people say that there are some clearance issues when fitting Cooper S calipers to regular disk hubs so I thought I'd do a test fitment before I went any further.

Posted Image
Had to file a small flat on the hub so that the caliper would clear it. The other side already had a machined flat as it's a new hub.

Posted Image
Then all was dandy, no other clearance problems here.

Posted Image
Test fit with a wheel.

Posted Image
At the back.

Posted Image
Close up showing clearance between wheel and caliper.

Posted Image
Next job was to start fitting up the arch protector.

Posted Image
This shows that the arch will hold the protectors outer edge.

Posted Image
Underneath. The liner will be attached to the inner wing with screws to make sure it's not reliant on the plastic arch.

Posted Image
Popped the doors on as they need finishing off too.

Posted Image
Started marking out where they need work.

Posted Image
And the other side.

Posted Image
That was that for the day. First time she's been outside in a long time. Pay no attention to the crow bar!

Thanks for looking :).

Wise choice on the arch protectors!

How are you planning to close the gaps on the doors?

Aye, protect the investment :).

I'm going to get it as good as possible by positioning the door and then I'm going to use the trick Neil used on Project Erm, welding thin welding rods in to the gaps to close them up and then dressing neatly with a linishing disk.

It's going to take some time but I can't leave them as they are :(.

Definitely need to get the suspension set up properly when it's all done. The front wheels have some serious positive camber at the moment looks unnerving!

Its got to be done Adam its got to be done. One tip though is to tack the rods on the outside of the door first then once you are happy completely weld the inside of the rod first then the outside.

This should help to prevent the rod from bending in thus not needing as much dressing with a block and hammer.

Yeah I know :(. How long did it take you in the end Neil? And what size rods did you use?

Were they arc welding rods?

They were oxy acetylene filler rods Adam and i believe they are the 3.4mm rods but i will check tomorrow. It took a long time to get them right and the body shop guy had to do some more on the skins due to heat distortion so be careful with the amount of heat build up.

Each door took me a day roughly. Be patient with it and you will be pleased with the results. I will defo do it the same way again without a doubt. Too anal maybe but it looks good.

I did some searching: http://www.theminifo...dpost&p=1951601 It was 3.4 indeed. I will see if I can get some locally, otherwise eBay time!

Are arc welding rods just mild steel too or are they not suitable?

I'll do my best to keep it cool. Could do without knackering the skin of the door at this point!

I'm just putting together a small Mini Spares order with some bits I could do with including the odd nut and bolt and some new shims for the doors.

Arc welding rods have got flux on them so no not really suitable, better to get the oxy rods. I got mine from B.O.C and were not that expensive.

I know of a place that sells metal rod/cable, I'm going to go and see if he's got any wide enough for what I want in the morning. Fingers crossed!

Otherwise I'll have to have a hunt around locally.
