I did indeed.

Took them down to bare metal with the wire wheel on the grinder, kurust, sanded, etched, primed and then top coat.

Need to sand the paint a bit where the CV boot is going to sit before I put the new CV's on then they're ready to go back on the car :).

Before you go putting the outer CVs on, rememeber that you have to pass them through the subframe!
If they're fully assembled you won't get them through the holes.

Really?!

I thought the holes in the subframe were plenty big enough for the pot joints to fit through?

I'll probably knock the pot joints back off as they're sealed and easy to refit. I want the CV's sealed up when they go back to the garage so they don't get contaminated with crap haha.

I think they just squeeze through with no gaiter - certainly not when built up fully.

What's the best way for it all to go back together then? Should I knock the pots back off and attach them to the gearbox when it's finished instead? Or is it easier to put the pots back on the gearbox when I drop it back in to the car?

That's what I would do, you have more control over the shaft to putt trough the subby preventing scratching the nice paint.

you use Shloer??

I drink it sometimes. I'm using the bottle as a used white spirit holder.

An update?! Not had one of them in a while!

Posted Image
Took a bit of material off the outside of an old bearing race. I'm going to use this to drift in the new races.

Posted Image
All the parts that need to get put together.

Posted Image
Steering rack installed.

Posted Image
You can see why I wrapped the subframe up.

Posted Image
Unwrapped.

Posted Image
Passenger side upper suspension arm fitted along with the rubber doughnut and hi-lo.

Posted Image
Same done for the driver side.

Posted Image
Subframe moved out of the way again for the time being.

Knackered now and I stink of white spirit and cavity wax so I'm going to go get a shower. I shall plod on again tomorrow as I really enjoyed today.

Thanks for looking :).
