Hehe.

Cheers Bean :).

Should be consistent updates again from Thursday onwards. Had a few bits and bobs to do with Uni again, they've promised I'm finished after tomorrow though lol.

Reeeeoooowwwww.

Been doing odds and ends on Elliot lately, trying to move in a more straight forward direction now haha. Here are some update pictures anyway:

Posted Image
Holes for the rear fog all drilled. I'm leaving both sets so I've got an option of how high to mount it.

Posted Image
Low position.

Posted Image
High position.

Posted Image
Hole drilled in boot for wiring to pass through.

Now down to some serious work!

Posted Image
Spent alot of time cleaning up the driver side rear arch and then kurusted it.

Posted Image
Repeated the procedure with the passenger side arch.

Now I'm off to the garage to try and get the main boot floor sorted so I can get the whole lot primed today.

Thanks for looking :).

I've kurusted them, I'm hoping with the proper protection they will last another few years yet before I need to rip them out and replace them. I'd have replaced them now but the car has been off the road far too long and as I say, they'll do for a bit yet.

Spent a good few hours on my back today scrubbing away at the underside of the boot floor.

Passenger side.

Driver side.

Underside is almost done now, back of the rear valance needs a bit more sanding before I'm happy with it. Can't wait until I can prime it as that will be the end of having to lay on my back with sand paper in my hand haha.

Thanks for looking :).

It's a damn good feeling when you go from a manky dirt covered panel to something smooth and clean like that!

I'm hoping the pace is going to increase a bit now I'm completely done at Uni. I'd like to take Elliot to MITP in August (famous last words).

Yeah, feels good. Such dirty work though and it makes me ache all over haha.

Working on it Ed!

I agree with you about the light, however it might be marginally too high to be legal, that's why I'm leaving the other holes so I can move it down easily if need be .

Here's todays work:

Started off by applying kurust to some suspect areas of the boot floor, no pictures of this as it's boring. While that was going off, I turned my attention to the rear subframe as when I painted it last time I must not have done a good job keying the primer as the top coat is lifting.

Posted Image
Needs attention.

Posted Image
Top coat lifting off Halfords primer.

I started stripping the mounts off and decided to make a tool to hold the trunnion bolts properly rather than my usual ghetto methods. I used one of those handles you use for tightening the boss on the angle grinder.

Posted Image
Made a slit in one side and adjusted it to fit the trunnion bolts.

Posted Image
Welded it up.

I spent some time cleaning up the removed mounts as I'm going to do some more work on those later, again no pictures. By this time the kurust had had enough time.

Posted Image
Everything wiped down and some primitive masking put in place to stop me covering all the floor.

Posted Image
Primer mixed.

Posted Image
Driver side wheel arch and floor.

Posted Image
Passenger side wheel arch and floor.

Posted Image
Overall floor.

That's all for now.

Thanks for looking .

nice job, you got plenty of paint by the looks of it,....Rear fog light, I would use the low position,... have you decided yourself yet?

The high position I think, I like it tucked away. We shall see though.

Topcoat tomorrow :proud:.

Hi,

Please don't think I am being picky but what about the runs, or will they just be covered by topcoat and stonechip etc??

Nah I know what you mean Graham, my logic is this:
  • It's the underside of the car. In everyday circumstances, if you can see it, you've got more important things to worry about!
  • 90% of it will be hidden by the underseal I'll be slathering on.
If it was a visible area, I'd be sanding the runs out for sure.

good luck wiv top-coat, I will trial fit the high one tmr, and I suppose if it is to low it won't be visuable enough with heavy fog, are there any "highway rules" for how high they need to be placed from tarmac level?

Not as much done today as I would have liked but here's a few pictures anyway:

All seam sealed up, arches included.

I'm just trying to work out what I need in my next order from Mini Spares in order to rebuild the front subframe. I think I've pretty much got everything covered now though.

I'll continue at the garage tomorrow.

Thanks for looking :D.
