Coming along very nicely, you could always chop the lip off the bonnet as it is a very good rust trap.

Mmm I know. I'm currently weighing up my options:

  • Remove lip, make repairs to bonnet - Mk I grille
  • Remove lip, repair bonnet and lip - Mk III grille
  • Clean up as best I can then remove when it gets worse - Mk III grille and then Mk I grille

Just a little welding to finish off at the back and at the jacking point, clean down the remainder of the welds and prep this side of the floor ready for painting.

Thanks for looking .

I made a start on cleaning up the floor too. If I get down to it tomorrow I should be able to get the floor stripped, cleaned and primed then I can seam seal and top coat it on Sunday :).

Thanks for looking ;).

Hi Deathrow it's great to see you reach this stage. As I've said before yours was one of the three projects that really inspired me to get started. So seeing your Mini reaching the end of welding is fantastic. Maybe I'll get there one day. Congratulations and keep us informed.

Hugh

Thanks for the support guys, it means alot to me.

Dragged myself down there today even though I couldn't really be bothered but I needed to get the underside primed so it has time to dry.

Done now though.

Seam sealer and top coat tomorrow. Then I'm going to get my bonnet sorted out and finish off the doors.

Thanks for looking ;).

Looks good Adam!

So you've got etch, red oxide, then applying seam seal and then what's your top coat? some sort of spray on underseal?

Yeah, etch, red oxide primer, U-Pol Grey Stripe seam sealer and then it's Rustoleum top coat. The underseal is yet to go on!

I've still not decided if I'm doing the exterior of the car in rustoleoum or in cellulose (I do however know someone who will beat me with a stick if I use rustoleoum, hehe). Time will tell.

I'm spraying this :), it's been coming out quite well for a quick job.

Oh yes, can't wait until it's ready to paint just because then all the welding is out of the way. I'm not looking forward to the painting itself though as I know there is going to be alot of blood, sweat and tears getting the finish as good as it can be :D.

Cheers guys!

Cheers danny2009, drawing to close now. Can't wait to drive it again.

Got some work done today:

Posted Image
Seam sealed the driver side floor.

Posted Image
Started work on the bonnet while the seam sealer was drying.

Posted Image
Got the lip off, lots of crustyness here.

Posted Image
Lip on the bonnet will survive.

Posted Image
Now I can clean it up and have a Mk1 grille or weld on a new lip and stay Mk3, hmmmm.

Posted Image
Last thing I did was put some paint on the underside.

More tomorrow I think.

Thanks for looking :).
