Progress!

Posted Image
Got the rest of the boot cleaned out (see 2 hours with a hoover ).

Posted Image
Other side, note the tank bracket has been welded in also.

Posted Image
Got it jacked up so I could start work getting ready to put the passenger side sill on.

Posted Image
Inner sill, needs some protection before I hide it away.

Posted Image
I primed it and painted it with some black spraypaint. Plenty of layers on this now.

Posted Image
Boot seam sealed.

Posted Image
Other side.

Posted Image
Rear bench welding also seam sealed.

Posted Image
And the other side.

Right, I've got to go do some Uni work now. Should be more work on Elliot tomorrow.

Thanks for looking .

I'm glad you enjoyed the read, it's very gratifying to know people are still reading through .

Ek9's are lovely, wish I could afford to have one along side the Mini.

Shouldn't be too long now before I can get back behind the wheel :o.

This project looks amazing! gonna be great when its finished.

Handy tip if you want it? .. try using a cut down 1/2" brush to put your seam sealer in. It gets the sealer in to the holes etc better and looks a bit more factory. and sometimes masking out the area you want sealed makes it look neater. Probs just me being picky and ocd

Great build!!

James

Hehe, cheers James.

I'd heard of the masking tape thing before but I've never bothered. Not heard of the brush trick though, I'll give it a whirl as I've got a knackered brush I use for kurust anyway. I call my sealing: "functional" hehe.

You won't see any of that in the boot anyway :D.

Not a huge amount done today, but it's all progress!

Posted Image
I finished fettling up the sill and got all the holes drilled in it for plug welding to the inner sill.

Posted Image
Door step/rear quater lip drilled for plug welding as well.

Posted Image
A close up...I'm not sure why I took this but there you are.

Plan is to slather the inner and outter sill in rustoleoum tomorrow as my good man Pete told me that it'll do a much better job than rattle can paint. Then once that's done, I'll repeat the same process on the driver side. Thursday should be welding time

Thanks for looking :gimme:.

Looking good as always.

One thing to point out though, as you’re no longer using/fitting the brackets at each end of the sills, the holes for them do now need welding up.

How come? I was going to get some rubber bungs for them and use them as waxoyling points. Or is it an MOT thing?

Have you tucked the outer sill into the heelboard or just up to it?? Bit hard to see from the pic, but great work as usual.

It goes under the lip on the heelboard :(. If you look at the end of a genuine sill, they have like a step down where the heelboard lip sits on the sill >_<.

It's all going to look pretty neat once I'm done, quite pleased!

Taking a break from my Uni work to post todays update.

Posted Image
Sill painted with rustoleoum.

Posted Image
All the way up.

Posted Image
Other side jacked up.

Posted Image
This side will get the same treatment.

Posted Image
Passenger side sill painted on the inside.

Posted Image
Close up.

Sadly I realised I've not welded up those holes in the sill so I'll have to do them and then touch up the paint first thing tomorrow.

Hoping to really crack on with it tomorrow, keep an eye out.

Thanks for looking ;).

Got some more work done today:

Posted Image
Painted up the inner sill on the driver side.

Posted Image
Painted up both sills ready to go on.

I also drilled all the holes for plug welding on the driver side and I welded up the extra holes for the slinging brackets in the outter sills (hence having to paint the passenger side outter sill again).

Right, as the rustoleoum is taking its time drying in the garage as it's pretty cold out still the plan for tomorrow is to finish up my work on the doors, get skins welded in place properly and cleaned up so they're ready for painting. With some luck the paint on the sills will be dry enough on Saturday so I can start welding them on!

Thanks for looking :D.
