Looking good bud. You hve put a sterling amount of effort into this and I am very impressed with the results given the learning curve you've gone through. -_-

Keep it up and I want to see it when it's finished. ;)

Thanks for the kind words Graeme, I'll be more than happy to bring it round sometime to show you, although Elliot might look a bit rough around the edges compared to your Minis!

Update on the way!

Only a few pictures of todays work:

Posted Image
Fettled the front end some more.

Posted Image
Coat of red oxide on the back of the passenger side a-panel.

Posted Image
Second coat of red oxide on the back of the front panel, the more the merrier I say!

Posted Image
Second coat on the a-panel.

Posted Image
Front panel reinstalled, probably for the final time as all the holes are drilled ready for plug welding now.

Posted Image
Overall shot, I'm pretty happy with this side, I've got the door gaps to a point where I'm satisfied with them now.

Posted Image
Bit closer.

If the weather stays good, I'm going to aim to weld the front end on entirely before the end of the week.

Todays work, one step forward and two steps back, doh.

Posted Image
Fettled around with the passenger side a-panel fit, got it all good and then pushed and pulled a bit too much and bent the a-panel. I'll pop to Mini Tech in the morning, with a bit of luck he'll have one in stock, else I'll have to wait for a Mini Spares order to come through.

Posted Image
Gap at the back of the passenger door.

Posted Image
Gap at the back of the driver door, it's bigger than the passenger side, but it appears the drivers door is at least 3mm shorter than the passenger door. I'm hoping I can solve these problems when I reskin the doors.

Posted Image
Front of the driver side door, does this seem too big? Should I be thinking about moving the a-panel back more?

Posted Image
Driver wing to scuttle, I'm proud of this!

Posted Image
As she sits now. If the weather improves I'll get some more work done tomorrow.

Thanks for looking :w00t:.

Personally I’d re-skin the doors, get the gap right for the rear quarters and then fettle the a panels to fit, rather than trying to get the doors to re fit in a gap that was fettled previously.

Other than that top work :w00t:

Front end panel gaps are looking very good! I'm with 1984Mini25 on the doors though - get them re-skinned first rather than trying to re-skin them and fit into the hole you've made - they'll never be the same shape afterwards!

Cheers Jayare.

I've made a start on the first door today, although it's looking more and more like I'll do them both together then it's out of the way.

Todays work:

Posted Image
This door will never be the same again!

Posted Image
Door locks and catches stripped off.

Posted Image
Handle as well.

Posted Image
Edges ground to release skin from frame.

Posted Image
After fighting with a few spot welds I didn't expect, it opened up like a clam shell.

Posted Image
Initially it looked a bit worrying.

Posted Image
And again.

Posted Image
But after some scraping and some white spirit, turned out it was all just waxoyl and it's done a brilliant job!

Posted Image
Small section here that will need replacing.

Posted Image
Then I started rubbing down the inside of the new skin so I could prime it ready to go on. Do I need to remove all the e-coat? As it really does not want to come off and it's pretty thick.

Posted Image
The previous owner must have installed some central locking kit or something as there were a bunch of ugly holes that didn't belong in the frame, not to mention the ones for waxoyling.

Posted Image
Got them all nicely welded up.

Posted Image
All repaired areas given a temporay splash of red oxide for protection.

Posted Image
And the rear of the frame.

I'm planning to prepare both the door frames and the door skins, prime them with red oxide primer and top coat them as well before I put the skins on the frames, I figure this way they will last the longest amount of time possible before they rot out at the bottom. The frames will also be waxoyled before I install the skin.

Thanks for looking!

Good work, very neat lines, hope I can learn to weld one day, especially to your standard.

Cheers guys :D.

Always motivating to get posotive feedback. There may be more progress tomorrow, if not, during the week :).

I want to get away from the panel gaps and back behind the wheel!
