I like the idea with the vinegar, still got a few bits to clean myself so might give it a go

Cheers

I just wanted to pop in and say:

Progress is being made, albeit very quietly!

Much louder progress coming soon, including imagery!

Some good work going on in this thread, keep it up!

I have a quick question if you dont mind? The boot floor has gone in the corners on my mini and im currently sourcing panels to sort it, i've got the interior boot repair panels and a rear valance, but what are the repair panels called for the little box section that the rear valance attaches to in the corners?? The black bits in the picture below. Where can I get them?? Many thanks :dontgetit:

Not a problem sir :).

They are called valance closing panels. If you search on Mini Spares, they do 3 types. I used the cheapest ones, which I found needed alot of modification to fit properly.

Pictures!

Out of the vinegar now.

Posted Image
Adjust bolt removed finally and cleaned up as best I could.

Posted Image
Etched.

Posted Image
Red oxide.

Posted Image
Some awful hammerite spray paint I bought, won't be buying it again.

Posted Image
Etch primed superfins.

Posted Image
Then VW brilliant orange.

Posted Image
More coats of crap rattle can paint.

Posted Image
Drums finished, they aren't perfect, but they aren't going to be seen that much.

Posted Image
Backplates and other bits brush painted with rustoleoum, which does a much better job than hammerite spray.

Posted Image
One side of the remaining radius arm done.

If if they tack off before I go to bed tonight I'll put another coat on some things and paint the other side of that arm. Should be able to reassemble the radius arms on Tuesday :dontgetit:.

Thanks for looking.

I'm on Easter break now Ed, however between working on Elliot and revision, I'm not really going to have time. Summer though, if you're at home, I'll be over sir :-.

Sorry, no progressive pictures in this update, but I enjoyed getting down to it and cracking on :).

Parts of gear selector.

Posted Image
Assembled.

And then there is a part which has me confused:

Posted Image

There is a cut out in the base (on the left, below the middle bolt in this picture), at the moment, it's blocked with grease, but if it weren't, it'd allow direct access inside the casing. Seems daft to me but is this correct?

Thanks for looking :).

I was busy cleaning up my gear selector when I was home, I don't remember seeing a cut out in that plate.. I'll see if I took any photos close up.

Ah, turns out I do too! You can just about make it out on the photo, you can see the dust sheet through the hole.

Cheers Luke .

I didn't notice mine had a cut out either until I put it back together and then I wondered if it was even meant to be there. There are very few pictures kicking about of gear selectors so I appreciate your response sir!
