Cheers man .Good work there mate it's coming along nicely. Your welding is good. I've not done that much yet but am no where near where you are on technique. keep it up
But your car is beautiful, you've no need to go welding it back to health.
I'll come do the welding for you if you put a VTEC in mine for me . Haha.

As I left it previously.
Welded up.
Making sure the arch still fits, which means the curve of the lip is correct.
Checking front.
Cleaned up welds a little more to ensure clearance between the subframe and the closing panel here.
Patch panel made.
Tacked in place.
That was it for Saturday!

How I left it yesterday.
Finished cleaning up the mess I made with the last valance closing panel.
Valance now sits in the right place again.
Working my way round the patch with small welds. Still more to do, but this is not to be rushed.
So spent some time wire wheeling the passenger side wheel arch, still needs alot of cleaning along with the rest of the underside of the back end.
Thanks for looking guys and girls! We'll get there soon!

Yeah roll on easter holidays! I'm going to have a lot of revision to be getting on with in that time but I'll reserve that work for the evenings. I'm hoping by the end of easter I can have the welding finished and have her painted so I can start reassembling .

Cheers Fiona . How is that fine Mini Peter did for you doing?Looks great, nice shiny bits too! Good luck with the project!
I've been to the garage with one of my Uni friends today, he offered to give me a hand getting the rear subframe in place.
Bolted the frame on at the heelboard end and jacked it up to the car.
Valance clamped in place.
Checking clearance with a closing panel.
I'm going to have a good go at putting the valance in place on Thursday, all being well.
Thanks for looking .

Started to prepare the rear valance because the way I'm positioning the closing plates now, it's likely the valance will be going on and staying on.
Plus the primer hadn't stuck too well in places.
Bare metaled.
Etched.
Red oxided.
Drying in the none existant sun.
Finished welding the patch in here and ground the welds down.
Skimmed with filler.
Still much to do as you can see. I will be alot happier once the rear valance is welded on though. Then I can drop the frame out and get the underside of the boot floor cleaned ready for repainting and undersealing. Then the next time the frame goes on, it won't be coming off again .
Thanks for looking .

Valance clamped in place so I could make sure the closing panels clear the subframe.
Valance dropped out so I could remove the subframe.
Passenger side.
Driver side.
Second piece tacked in on passenger side.
Second piece tacked in on driver side.
Valance removed again.
Passenger side.
Driver side.
Passenger side welded up, ground back and seam sealed.
Driver side welded up, ground back and seam sealed.
Underneath, passenger side.
Underneath, driver side.
Next time I go around I'll be priming the lot and getting it all nice and protected for putting the rear valance on for good. After that there is some grinding to do here and there to clean things up and make it a clean shop. The whole underside of the boot floor will be cleaned, primed and painted before the subframe goes back on again.
EDIT: I also placed a Mini Spares order with everything I need to rebuild the rear subframe, bar some bolts, which I need to find locally it would seem as they're high tensile and MS only has regular ones, sadly.
Thanks for looking .
