A guy in our mini club, seam welds his subframes and adds metal to the rails to beef it up and provide better jacking points.

Something to think about, his looks mint when hes finished with them

Cheers guys.

I'm not sure my welding is neat enough to make a nice job of seam welding the entire subframe. It might be an idea for when I replace it though as I don't think this one is worth all the time, as long as it's protected so it lasts as long as it can before I need to change it then I'm happy.

Thanks for the suggestion though Jordie :D.

You have to make do with what you have I guess, I'm just really appreciative of the fact I have somewhere dry to store Elliot as I know alot of people don't even have that.

Yeah she'll be well worth it when she's done.

Just come back from the garage because it started to rain, didn't get anything done really :D. The weather is really putting a damper on my mood at the moment. Lets all cross our fingers that the weather starts to pick up because I'm back at Uni in october and I'd like to have the bodywork finished and her painted by then.

Well it's been another one of those rain, sun, rain, more rain, sun, days so I've not got a massive amount done but progress is progress.

Just had to create a new photobucket account because you guys are almost maxing out the 10GB of bandwidth I have on my other account haha. This way it's less likely the pictures will ever go down.

Posted Image
Finished wire brushing the subframe and covered it in Kurust. I need to take it home now so I can jet wash it ready for the primer.

Then I went back home because of the rain but it became sunny again so I went back because I was feeling down about not getting anything done.

Time to attack this area.

Posted Image
Marked out a patch.

Posted Image
Chopped out the offending metal.

Posted Image
Contoured the patch and clamped it in place.

Posted Image
Tacked in place.

Posted Image
I welded it in from the back to make life easier when cleaning the weld up.

Posted Image
Ground down.

Posted Image
Etch primed.

Theres a few little bits in that area which need welding and finishing off, but I've no problem taking my time doing that once the floor is welded in.

Thats all for today, cross your fingers for some good weather because I need to get the bodywork finished and ready for paint before it gets too cold to paint it .

Thanks for looking ;D.

Yeah I just want the welding finished and to get her painted, after that I don't mind spending my evenings in the garage until 10pm refurbing little bits and bobs until she's back together and ready for the mot.

Thanks for the kind words guys :w00t:.

Come on Ed! Get down to it! :gimme:

No work today because of the weather, it's flipping hideous here at the moment :w00t:.

Been thinking about my rear subframe and I'm not sure if I should spend some time trying to source a better condition second hand genuine frame. I'll take some pictures of the areas I'm a little concerned about and see what you guys thing of it.

Right, here is todays work:

Posted Image
This mount and the remainder of the bad floor needed removing.

Posted Image
All removed.

Posted Image
Bottom of arch repaired and the small hole in the driver side quater repaired.

Posted Image
Lined up the spare wheel recess.

Posted Image
Which moves everything else out of line because this pattern panel is rubbish.

Basically, what I'm going to do is use the spare wheel recess from the pattern panel and then make the rest of the floor from sheet metal so that the bumper lip lines up with the bumper lip on the rear panel. That should do a fairly good job. I'm going to take my time as when this is done I want it to be hard to tell it's ever had the floor repaired.

Thanks for looking guys, more tomorrow if the weather stays good ;).

i have yet to find the joy of pattern panels... ;)
