Oh I am, even though it was a very small and straight forward repair. Still pleased with it.

I'm actually starting to use the second setting on my welder, I find pulsing it on the second setting gives me much neater welds with better penetration, except where I manage to get the gaps a little less than ideal, where I still use the first setting.

Just a brief update because I am absolutely shattered. Here's todays work:

Posted Image
Rot identified.

Posted Image
Door step before I started.

Posted Image
Door step repaired.

Posted Image
Flitch repaired.

Posted Image
Seam sealed and etch primed.

Posted Image
Red oxide applied.

Posted Image
How I left it today.

I won't be working on it tomorrow because it's Sunday but weather permitting I'll be on it again on Monday.

Thanks for looking .

Not a problem chap. I trust you had all the right tools then? It's not that it's a big job, it's just having the right tools to make it possible. I had to wait 3 times while another socket/tool arrived. Glad it went well for you though :).

I'll just write up todays progress.

Righty, here is todays work:

Posted Image
Part of the a-panel lip that needs replacing.

Posted Image
Nasty bit chopped out.

Posted Image
Smallest I've ever managed to get a cutting disc. I feel I've had my moneys worth from this one haha.

Posted Image
Repair welded in.

Posted Image
Close up of weld.

Posted Image
Weld ground down, repair trimmed to shape and etch primed.

Posted Image
Locating tab added to a-panel.

Posted Image
A little bit too much penetration there!

Posted Image
A-panel fitted.

Posted Image
Front end in place.

Posted Image
And again.

Posted Image
Gaps aren't bad but they still need some work.

Posted Image
And because I'm a tart I had to put an indicator on.

Posted Image
Wide angle.

This has got me really excited now. I set myself a target of having the passenger side rot sorted out by the end of July so that I have August to work on the boot/rear, front end and electrics. That will leave me September to sort out painting it and any other niggly bits I need to get done.

Now for those of you asking when I think it'll be done, I don't like giving solid dates so I will say I want it on the road this year. That gives me a nice bracket of time to play with haha.

Thanks for looking :).

When welding do you go along with short bursts of welds? I really admire your welding!

Yes I do.

I'll describe the technique I used on the close up weld above.

Tacked it in place every inch or so, then proceeded to weld 1 inch at a time with short pulses, literally a second if not a tiny bit shorter. When I'd covered an inch, I moved to the opposite end of the patch and did an inch there then allowed time to cool and repeated the process. I was using the second setting on my MIG for that weld because the gap between the 2 pieces of metal was very small. I find it easier to do it this way and it provides very good penetration.

Thanks for the admiration, makes me feel proud that I taught myself by doing .

EDIT: Also, jut to add to the thread, I've just bought some latches for the inside of the flip front where it joins the a-panel, the front will be secured with these and the Aerocatch fasteners. Just in a different way to what I originally intended.

Righty, off to bed so I can get up and work on Elliot again tomorrow, still much to be getting on with.

I couldn't go to the garage today because it was raining, not just a bit but it was chucking it down.

Anyway, I still wanted to make some progress so I worked on my engine.

Posted Image
Gearbox finished and all sealed back up. Just need to clean the diff and put that back on.

Posted Image
"Why hello there Mr. Gearbox, how would you feel if I got on top of you?"

Posted Image
"Oh yeah you like that don't cha."

Sorry, been watching too much Family Guy lately. Anyway, I got the cam timed in as well, there are some bits I need to paint before they can go on, like the timing cover and the bottom pulley. The clutch and transfer housing is all ready to go on though. I'll refurb the head later this week.

Thanks for looking :P.
