Cheers, I feel a sense of good progress now.

I'll write up todays work.

Righty, here's todays work, alot of pictures!

Posted Image
Passenger side jacked up, showing off it's dirty oversill.

Posted Image
Bolster chiseled down the length of the sill.

Posted Image
Peeled oversill back to find OH WHATS THAT? IS IT THE ORIGINAL SILL?! Yes it is, and yes, it does still have shiny factory paint on it. God knows what mindless moron put oversills on this car but surely considering they've been on for at least 2 years now and the sill is still in this condition, it couldn't have been that bad when they put the oversills on! Idiots.

Posted Image
Crusty at the back because of the oversill.

Posted Image
Totally goosed at the front, again because of the oversill.

Posted Image
I found this nice piece of fudge while I was removing the inner, outer sill haha. That'll be the waxoyl I pumped in to the sills when I found out they were oversills.

Posted Image
Inner, outer sill removed roughly.

Posted Image
Front.

Posted Image
Back.

Posted Image
Front after a light wire brushing.

Posted Image
Rear after a light wire brushing.

Posted Image
Then out came our old friend Mr. Stabby. I didn't manage to make any holes anywhere which I guess is a good sign and since the majority of the inner sill still has it's original paint on it and isn't flaking off I guess that means I'm looking at good metal but we shall see when I attack the whole length of the sill with a very unforgiving knotted wire wheel on he grinder.

Posted Image
How I left it today because it started to rain.

I was still in the mood to do some more work when I got home so I whipped out the gunk I bought from halfords this morning and made a start on cleaning some of the engine bits that need to go back on my 998.

Posted Image
Before.

Posted Image
After being gunked and rinsed. At this point I realised I was making a huge mess of my mums sink and it wasn't really big enough anyway.

Posted Image
So I moved the party outside.

Posted Image
More gunk applied.

Posted Image
A wok I would most definitly not be making my tea in!

Posted Image
Reverse was no better.

Posted Image
Gunk applied :P.

Posted Image
Out with the pressure washer and we have a wok worthy of cooking in!

Posted Image
Reverse side.

Posted Image
Both bits left to dry.

Thats all for today. I'm going to focus on sorting out my bedroom this evening so that I have enough room on my desk to bring my 998 home and start rebuilding that. Guess that means I need to make another Mini Spares order too.

Thanks for looking guys and girls :).

Whey good to be reading your updates again  nice work Adam! take some wire ball wool to the outside of the wok, works really well with lifting some of the stubborn grime & get the thin/light stuff so it doesn't scratch.

lmfao @ the transfer case in the sink! I now paint the gearbox and clutch end in grey hammerite when I've cleaned them up - its impossible to keep the ally clean and un-corroded for long.

Cheers guys.

Yeah my mum was not impressed at me cleaning that in the sink.

I'm not too fussed at a perfect finish on the outside, as Tom says, it never keeps and at the end of the day this engine is a working engine, it's not meant to be for show I just want it a bit neater than it is .

Raining today so no work on Elliot but I might collect the engine and make a start.

Hello guys, I did end up collecting the engine yesterday and it's now on my desk 90% stripped. I need to remove and number the cam followers as well as remove the studs and oil pump then I can clean the engine down and get it painted ready for putting back together .

Todays work:

Posted Image
We now have electric in the garage, legally.

Posted Image
Elliot doing a jig.

Posted Image
How I came to it, mmm crusty!

Posted Image
Oversill cut off and some bits and bobs ground down.

Posted Image
Eurgh! Not welcome here!

Posted Image
Closer inspection of the rust under the window.

Posted Image
Wire wheeled the inner sill to reveal it's pretty much solid from the jacking point back.

Posted Image
Might need a little attention in places.

Posted Image
...and then it was finished , nah, this is the driver side.

Posted Image
Which I gave a coat of rustoleoum.

Not alot to report today but hey, you have some slow days don't you. I need to cut some bits out of the shell I have for patch sections, I shall do that and get on with the engine tomorrow.

Cheers for looking :(.

Well here is what I've been up today, no pictures of the engine strip down as I just wanted to get on with it.

Posted Image
Back.

Posted Image
Front.

Posted Image
Cleaned front.

Posted Image
Cleaned back.

Posted Image
Top.

Posted Image
Back on the desk.

Posted Image
Back painted.

Posted Image
Front painted.

It's not perfect, but I don't care as long as she runs sweet when she's back together.

I'll leave the block to dry for a bit and then later I shall go as far as I can reassembling before I need the gasket set, which I've yet to order haha.

Thanks for looking :shy:.

Yeah, thats about all it's getting, I was half contemplating leaving the block yellow and rust coloured haha.

I used "Tetrosyl Engine Lacquer" I bought on ebay, seems to have done a good enough job. I'm happy with it anyway.

I'm full of a cold now so I won't be going to work on Elliot at the garage until I'm feeling better but I can still make a start on rebuilding the engine and I can carry on refurbing my wheels. Should keep me busy until I'm feeling up to bodywork again.
