hi there. i have just scanned over this thread an it looks good. with the gear box you want to check the dog gears on the side of the gear. these teeth were a real mash on mine and i had to replace 1st and second. if your rebuilding it i would suggest replacing the two main roller bearings.
looks great.

Little bit more done:

Posted Image
Started off with an empty, clean gearbox casing.

Posted Image
Cleaning each part as I put it back in the box.

Posted Image
Selector forks and bell crank levers reinstalled.

Posted Image
Can't for the life of me get this bush to shift so I can change the baulk rings.

Posted Image
How I left it.

Need to get that bush off and find a way to press in the retaining pin for the 3rd gear retaining plate then I can change the baulk rings and begin reassembling the gears back in to the box.

Thanks for looking .

Cheers Greg, only just saw your post as we posted at similar times.

Also, in case anyone has a set, I'm in need of a set of drop gears, as my 998 ones don't fit so I assume the ones I need are 1275 specific.

Even with 1275 drops there are different types. Well different size shafts on the idler gears - is this an A series or an A+ box?

A+ casing the idler bearings are about 35mm O/D and 22mm ID
A casing the idler bearings are about 27mm O/D and 19mm ID

that sleeve that the bearing runs on needed tapping down with a punch at a very akward angle on mine. i found that sharp taps worked better than lots of small taps. also i found that it was easier to get off if the outer sleeve of the syncro was removed. but this does mean rebuilding the syncro hub.
the plungers on third and second gear are a pain in the arse but just need patience.
its looking great. wish i could get some straight cuts in my engine but no such luck lol.

It's an A+ box.

Is it possible for me to just get the drop gear that goes on the crank? As it seems thats the only one that is causing issue.

Cheers greg, I'll give that a go on the bushing, I'm not scared of rebuilding the synchro as it already exploded on me once and I managed to find all the bits scattered about my room.

You should be able to replace the primary gear with another A+ one - what's the issue with the one you have now?

It's from my 998, so it doesn't fit over the crank properly.

Or am I being a lemon and it should fit?

Off to do some work on the car today so I'll post an update later, but my word is it hot today!

Hold the Syncrohub in a vice, then smack the Shaft downwards with a hamer, this should cause the Hub and the hat to come off with each other as the shaft moves downwards.

I see - definately different between 998 & 1275 primary gears.
I have a 1275 one spare.

Righty, heres an update:

Posted Image
Started tackling this section more today.

Posted Image
Rusty hole in arch filed out to good metal and a patch section made and welded in.

Posted Image
Finshed welding in the patch I had started on the inner sill.

Posted Image
Seam sealed and painted, this is the current state of the driver side inner sill.

Posted Image
Lower quater panel repair prepared.

Posted Image
Slowly but surely I got it welded in all the way round.

Posted Image
Overall look at the rear quater, still work to do under the window.

Posted Image
I had some rust pitting in my scuttle in the middle, not bad enough to warrant cutting and repairing so I've filled the area after I was sure it was back to bare good metal. Theory being, I can replace my scuttle when I need to because of the flip front :).

Posted Image
This also arrived today, needs a good cleanup and the clock needs a refurb but it'll be fine.

Cheers for looking, I need to read up on metal shrinking now as I've got a bit too much at the bottom of my rear quater and it's causing the panel to pop in and out with pressure.

Comments welcome as always.
