Ah that's true, nice and subtle! Hmm & about the photoshops.. I think.. I like them all :P but I think orange roof & orange mirrors, like you said you've already got the orange on the wheels which will all tie it in.

Yeah I like the mirrors too. I'm thinking of it this way, the roof is definitly going to be orange, which is good because thats a hard part to paint whereas I can take the mirrors and arches off any time and paint them in the house if I have to change the colour, can't I :P.

Trying to get my hands on some Mazda MX5 seats for Elliot at the moment.

If you find more than 1 pair of mx5 seats, please let me know!

Nice work patching up the floor/sill whatever it's called

Roof and mirrors is how mine is done - I don't like contrasting arches, I prefer them to match the body and blend in.

I think I'll do the roof to start with, I can always tinker with the wing mirrors and arches later .

Won some MX5 seats on eBay, cost me £140 but with free delivery which I imagine must be about £30 or so, which isn't too bad really. The important thing is I made sure they had the MX5 seat frames so I can modify them to work on the Mini, I'm sure the seat rails from the MX5 work better than the ones on my Austin seats haha.

I've also ordered some box section steel so that I have it ready to fabricate my brace bars, which are going to be a little bit different to the usual ones people buy or make.

Weather is looking crummy so it might be gearbox stripping this weekend.

I already did chap :D:

Also, having seen this post by daveeeeee, I decided to order a fiberglass rear valance from The Arc Angels, they look to be really good quality and they're the same price as a genuine steel one anyway. Plus, it'll never rust on me again :techsupport:. Once I've sorted the boot floor and rear panel out it'll be bonded on to the floor. Saves me buying closing panels too.

I got 2 2000mm sections of 20mm x 20mm with a 1.5mm wall aswell as a 500mm by 500mm sheet of 1.2mm steel for about £26 plust postage. Could probably have got it cheaper if I'd looked locally but I feel a bit intimidated going in to the big industrial places for a few little bits of metal :D.

Didn't spot that :) That sound's pretty good, who'd you order it from?

I'm intrigued to know how you're going to do these special brace bars :) spill!

Well it's a bit of a cheat really because I saw them on a car in an old Mini Magazine, here's the scan I did a while ago:

Posted Image

As you can see, they brace bars form a triangle, which is alot better than a straight bar. I know the front subframe mounts don't really do much but I'm thinking more along the lines of, in a crash I'd rather the force was transferred through the car and it crumpled rather than the subframe squashed up and the engine sat on my knee.

Little update.

In an effort to improve the power to weight ratio in Elliot when she's done (and in an effort to make me a little bit happier with myself) my fridge at Uni now looks like this:

Posted Image
Vegetables for me, yay (not).

Anyway, popped home today after getting a text from my Mum to find these:

Posted Image
Well packaged you might say!

Posted Image
Like mumified seats.

Posted Image
Driver seat unwrapped. Naturally the driver seat has a bit of wear from people sitting on it, nothing to be disheartened about though.

Posted Image
Another shot of the driver seat.

Posted Image
And the pair together. I think they're going to look damn good in Elliot.

I had a look at the mounting points and it seems the brackets I need to make will be slightly more complicated that I originally thought, but nothing I can't handle ;).

I've also made a pretty big order to MiniSpares so I'll document all that stuff when it shows up, as well as my fiberglass rear valance.

I took £50 out of the project budget and bought myself Guitar Hero III for the PC to cheer myself up a bit. I'm sure Elliot won't mind.

Thanks for looking.

Its been a while since i last read your thread & i must say the progress is looking good.

I like the idea of roof & wheels orange, you can over do contrasting colours.

How did you get on with the cillit bang?

Liking those mx5 seats, i would be intrested to see how much clearence you have between the top of the seat & the roof,
might have to get some myself.

Keep up the good work bud ;)

Thanks mate, can't wait until I'm done at Uni so I can get on with getting her finished.

The cillit bang works well. I give it a quick go on the transfer housing and it did a good job of cleaning the oil off. Not sure if gunk would be a better bet though when it's about £6 for a litre.

Well I'll be sure to take some pictures when they're in. But from sitting on them, the headrests come about 2 or 3 inches higher than the headrests in my mums MPi which is on the standard seats. They should work quite nicely.
