Cant wait to see this progress again! Great project, was great seeing you at MITP too!

It was great to meet you finally too sir; although it didn't actually occur to me who you were at the time. I need to work on the faces to the names game for last this year!

Haha always the case, except I could'nt mistake Shifty and I never met him before MiTP

The first time I met Sean he rubbed my belly and made a joke about putting me on the barbecue...  O_O

Is that some sort of man love thing O_O  O_O

Not managed to get in to the garage too much this week as there's been a lot of stuff going on just recently. However I did manage to get in and do a little work on the workbench.

IMG_20160127_210941_zpscjvicqai.jpg

Notched the tops of the legs ready to take the supports.

IMG_20160127_210921_zpsj8xcphxx.jpg

Both legs glued up for strength.

Next steps are to do the final shaving to get the supports to sit flush with the top of the legs and then I can drill holes in the bench top ready for screwing down.

I am wondering if I should be treating this with something prior to final assembly to protect it but I don't really know that much about wood.

Thanks for looking :-).

I'm still only up to August 2010 but it's looking great! I must admit I've been skimming the chit chat and just reading updates with pictures! (Sorry)
Why did you opt for a steel front instead then? I'm sure you would've said but I must've skimmed that part! Haha

Am I the only one the laughs every time you mention getting good penetration while welding!!

Wow! Was not expecting the years long gaps but well done for getting so far! I've had my project 10years and only part welded a floor pan so don't worry about a couple of years lol
Glad you've now got a garage, it's hard work when you have to travel before you can even start work!
Keep up the excellent work

Yeah the year long gaps are unfortunate but that's life. I'm impressed you managed to make it all the way through. I often look at the start of this thread and wonder what complete nonsense I'm talking  :shy:.

Thanks for the encouragement, I'll try and keep things moving and get project to its conclusion!

In the middle of old housemates moving out and new housemates moving in with lots of tidying in between but I managed to get a few hours in the garage last night.

IMG_20160203_233110_zps19xeiqtg.jpg
Tidied up all the notches and made sure that the supports sat level with the top of the legs.

IMG_20160203_233049_zpswcel9lui.jpg
Other side, there were eight to do in total.

IMG_20160203_232851_zpsea5l3pri.jpg
Cut reliefs out of the shelf for where the legs sit.

IMG_20160203_232829_zpsyn0pjz9a.jpg
Shelf set in place so I could draw where the supports run ready for marking up.

IMG_20160203_232713_zpsoioh7bbm.jpg
Worktop set in place for marking.

I got the marking complete so the next time I'm in there I can mark and drill some holes and get everything secured.

Thanks for looking :-).

I'd keep an eye out for a piece of kitchen worktop for the top - that 1/2" ply will bend more than you think, once you put any weight on there.

I'll keep an eye out on eBay and Gumtree. Be nice and easy to replace the top at least. Thanks for the heads up Graeme :).

If your up in Lancaster, take a trip to The Worktop Centre on a White Lund (next to Ken Allen's). He'll sort you out with an offcut for sensible money and will cut it to length for you.

My bench at work is chipboard with 2mm stainless and it's surprising that flexes (but it is 6ftx2ft work surface!)

Bit more done on the workbench last night, just needs final assembly and a tidy up now.

IMG_20160215_230012_zpssneuik29.jpg

Notched the uprights for the horizontal supports which will help hold the hardboard backing.

IMG_20160215_230026_zpsmbjlczhb.jpg

I also popped in to The Worktop Centre on Saturday morning and got this piece of worktop cut. Thanks for the suggestion Graeme :-).

Should get it all together tomorrow night with a bit of luck.

Thanks for looking :-).

Bet is wasn't dear either.  I would now use the originally intended plywood to make the backboard.

It certainly wasn't, was definitely the way to go. I've put the hardboard up there for now as I may have another use for the plywood. I'm also not sure I'll end up hanging many tools, I might just use it for a white board. I also have an old laptop I might pin up there for when I come to reassembly as I think I'll be making extensive use of exploded diagrams.
