I'm going to have to start handing out badges for those that read all 101 pages! That's dedication in itself.

It was the work of PanelBeaterPeter that inspired me to have a go at the start. If you want more inspiration check out some of his threads:

to be honest, have been reading this post and its scared the Sh*te out of me. I'm about to start a refurb on my RSP and really do not want to be finding the hidden rust that you did. I can only take my hat off to you for all the work you have done thus far mate.

macca don't let it scare you!

Whatever you find you can fix, you've just got to take your time and deal with it in sections. My problem was always trying to do too many things at once and it becomes overwhelming.

Also I'm a little jealous, I'd love an RSP or a Mainstream Cooper. Mmm!

Oh and in addition, there will be more progress this weekend. Possibly along with some arty pictures as I've ordered a new lens for my camera and I'll be wanting to have a play with it.

Well it's taken me a few days to get through all 102 pages, but a good read and I picked up quite a few tips for my saloon, Puddles, that I'm currently working on.
Well done on all your work it looks great, just wish you would finish it, as I was telling myself not to jump to the last page to see the finished project, but it's not there yet.
If you have a full time job now, why not, save and just pay someone to spray Elliot for you? - Just a thought, use it, don't use it....

There are a few reasons I've not wanted to pay to have her painted but it is a good question so I'll explain.

During the early days when I was working on Elliot, I used oil based paints like red oxide and Rustoleum to protect Elliot after I had done repairs. It was only much later I was talking to a friend of mine who sprays cars professionally and he pointed out that this would cause lots of reactions with cellulose paints. As a result the car really needs bare metalling which would drive the cost of paying someone up drastically.

I've done all the panel work on Elliot myself and I'll be honest, because I'm not a panel beater it isn't perfect, far from it and there are a lot of parts I will probably have another go at in later years. I don't want to spend a lot of money to paint over my not so great foundations if that makes sense.

In addition to the above, I want to be able to say "I did that" about everything on the car and so far, I can.

I hope that explains my decision to continue plodding along myself :-). Not to mention obviously, the large savings I can pour in to something else for Elliot :-).

Fair enough :shifty:

What did your panel beater/spraypainter friend recommend to use as instead of red oxide or rustoleum?

I didn't think to ask as the damage had already been done for me sadly.

I've made some more progress this weekend although I got in to it and didn't take any pictures along the way. It was very dull stuff though, sand this, fill that, sand it again.

I do have some pictures from when I first arrived at the garage though as I test fitted some lights I won on eBay and took some pictures as I wanted to play with my new camera lens. So I guess these are better than nothing at all:

I shall continue next weekend :-).

Thanks for looking.

It is Graeme! Haha, you have a spare everything!

The whole units themselves aren't in the best state so I'm trying to source a better pair :-). I did get them for a steal so I don't really mind as I'm certain I can get my money back. I've already got another driver side lamp on the way which looks to be near perfect.

Thanks for the offer though as always :-).

Adam its great to see you at the Mini again. You were one of my main inspirers in the early days. In fact it was seeing what you were able to do bodywise that gave me the jolt to go at mine. Keep going!! I'd like to see you finish before me. The way I am at the moment that should be easy!

I'm glad my work could inspire Hugh, there have been times it hasn't inspired me! Haha.

Ah we shall see. I'm going to keep putting time in at the weekends and hopefully we shall see some progress :-).
