Hi, I am looking at an engine, it looks like a real goodin!! But it dosnt come with an ECU or a Loom. Not too worried about the loom as im sure I can get hold of one of these but I aint got a clue what ECU I need to find. Im looking at a B16 A2, no idea what car its off? Ive done a bit of searching found various numbers and letters but nothing to tell me exactly what I need. So far ive got OBD2A, but this dosnt mean much to me. Any help would be great. Cheers.
I'm no expert but have gone through the same dilemma myself.
Here's how i understand it
OBD (On Board Diagnostics)
OBD I is the easiest to re-programme and best overall performance if you're sticking to a Honda ECU
There can be problems using OBD II because of Honda's built-in anti-theft system.
I think your B16 A2 will be from a 1999 - 2000 Civic Si which would have originally had a OBD II but I'd downgrade to OBD I as they're easier to re-programme.
I've been looking at the Mini - Tec website, $500 for a reprogrammed ECU, I already have the engine wiring loom but i don't have the wiring loom that attaches the ECU to the Engine harness/loom which Mini Tec supply for another $500
You may just want to stick to a harness and ECU from the scrapyard, I've a book at home that goes into American Honda engine swaps, I'm sure that's got all the engine codes/years. I'll have a look over the weekend.

Could you have a look at this. Will this one be ok for my B16A2 Engine?

I'd need the code to be sure, there should be a code reference on the label but can't quite see it on the pic!

have you considered just going straight to an aftermarket ecu?
It boils down to cost!
I looked at the Hydra ECU that Z cars use but you're talking about £1200 by the time you've bought everything and modified the wiring.
But I'd appreciate advice on any other ECU's?

My complete MS installation cost £380 but that also included an innovate wideband kit. so roughly £250 without the wideband.
