overheating every so often- about 10 mins driving

massive pressure build up in radiator

dodgy creamy stuff under rcker cover cap

and really dodgy coloured oil- like greyish brown

has it gone or worse?

One way to really check is to do a compression test that will tell you whether or not your head gasket has gone, you should have two cylinders with similar low compression ratios if that is the case.

A much simpler way but I would not recomend this is to take the HT leads out while the engine is running if nothing happens with two then yes your head gasket has gone. But I must stress you can get quite a nasty shock I KNOW!

Sure sounds like the usual headgasket failure to me, id take the head off, check the gasket out replace and if the is signs off it blowing get it surface ground, ie light skim at your local engine recondition place (usually costs between £30 to £50). Headgasket set of minispares or ebay and dont forget to change the engine oil and filter etc. its not the easiest off jobs in the world if you never done one, prob your hardest job will be setting the tappets if you never done them, haynes manual does expalin how to do this very well in fairness, so if you got a spare evening, light nights! or weekend then have ago, if you need any help or more advise feel free to pm me!

Stop driving it, if it's gone then you'll be over heating stuff and causing all sorts of problems.

Now likely the gasket is gone, the white 'mayo' is emulsified oil, basically oil in water, and it sounds like there's quite a lot of it seeing as your oil's a funny colour.

I suggest draining oil and coolant, head off, may need skimming as you've kept driving, and then carefully rebuild with new gaskets, remembering to set the valve clearances, put in some oil and water, run it about a week, then rocker cover off, retorque the head, reset valve clearances, and consider oil and coolant change as this week will hopefully flush some of the water out of the oil, and vice versa.
Don't forget to change the filter, as odds are this will be full of combustion deposits, and all sorts.
