i had one of these for a while, worked fine for about 3 months.. then when the engine got warm it was bogging down like it was on choke. put points back in runs like a charm. so i rang them about the faulty part they couldnt find my order, then said they would ring back and never did... this went on for weeks. just give up in the end and wouldnt recomend them to my next door neighbours dog

Have found a landrover parts specialist thats doing an electronic ignition conversion kit for the 45d4 distributors for £6.75+vat. May be of interest to those of you with that dizzy!

http://www.mm-4x4.co...nsor-2721-p.asp

Does this mean I could convert my none electric dizzy to electronic? With out buying a full distributor?

Will this kit work with the standerd dizzy on a 1988 designer?

Are people still finding these kits reliable, or haveing any issues with it?

And is it better to order one over the phone or online?

Thanks

Chris

you have to convert to a 12v coil and not use the 9v coil, and remove the wiring for the 9v coil

Right now the one down side, depending what type of points you have fitted you may have to modify the backplate

The picture above shows the setup for a sliding points type dizzy, the bit marked red is a peg which the standard points locate against. To fit the system you need to remove this peg.
On non sliding points dizzys the system should just screw straight on, although I can't confirm this.

Just used this fantastic quide (in post #92) to fit this into my 1990 auto 998cc. I thought I'd add that I was reluctant to remove the peg, so I filed a slot out of the plate of the electronic unit, so it cleared it. Worked just fine.

Britpart were supposed to do a type 25, but if they've done away with the combined rotor arm/trigger it should work anyway. You can interchange 25/45 points, the base plates are the same , it's just the wiring.

Sorry to resurrect this guys and gals but ive just fitted on of these tonight and for the life of me cannot get it to fire?

Its all wired up correctly as far as I can tell black to earth red to the +ve side of the coil. Starter turns the engine over fine but it just wont start did anybody else who has fitted this kit come across the same issue and if so how did you resolve it?

Here is a link to the kit in its current form as you can see they have replaced he rotor arm completely?

Nope!!

Its red to the + side of the coil and black to the - side of the coil, thats why it won't fire.

Yeah sorry shifty thats what i meant the black one doesnt go to earth my fault ive currently got it plugged into the connector that the points black wire went to, 99% sure that ends up back at the negative of the coil? Any other thoughts?
